hi everyone! I’ve been placed on this medication which is just awful, I’m covered in a rash and the clinic have said if I don’t continue with it I will have to wait 3 months to explore why I’ve responded with it like this. My other option was continue with it and you can start next week.

I’m 41 years old and time is not on my side at all at this point. 😞

I just wanted to know if anyone else was going through this? I’m on it day 16-26 of my cycle in preparation for starting my next cycle which should be next week.

I wake up this morning as I’m bleeding! Is this my new cycle or is this just this awful medication? I’m with Create and getting any info or advice from them is near on impossible! Why do they add more stress to an already stressful situation!?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi! Sorry to hear you’ve had such bad side effects ☹️ I’ve been taking it for a couple of weeks and have been fine. I have noticed though, each pill is covered with a very sweet coating, no idea what it is but it doesn’t taste great (I have to dissolve them under my tongue this time). I’m wondering if something like this coating is what’s causing the issue, rather than the estrogen?? Surely there is another brand your clinic can prescribe for you?! I mean, this process is hard enough without having additional complications!

I’m 41 too… I feel your pain and your panic! Hang in there… 🙏🏼 xxx

I’ve been very lucky and with every meds I’ve taken over the last 4 rounds I’ve been fine, the clinic has changed me to patches but unfortunately same result 🫣 nothing like a bit of stress is there 🙄

Thank you so much 🤞🏼

Hi Emsb84 , sorry for what you are going through and ivf journey is tough but you will get through..

There is an alternate to Progynova which is Estrabet you could ask for this medicine however it did not really went well when i had them,it created some sort of stiffness in my calf muscles and as soon as i stopped it was ok..

All the best in whatever you decide

Hi lovely, this is terrible they’re not doing anything to help you! There are other forms of oestrogen, I don’t understand why they’re not switching you to something else? I’d definitely ask if that’s an option. I know lots of people do oestrogen patches instead of pills….

Loads of love and luck. Xxxx

I’ve moved on to patches but same result unfortunately, other alternative was cancel it all and wait a few more months so I figured try and get through it 🙄 thank you

Hi. I'm sorry to hear about your awful side effects. I was put on 6 tablets 12mg of progynova a day to help thicken my lining when on clomid as clomid thinned out my lining. The side effects were awful, I didn't have a rash but for the first 4-5 days i had splitting headaches and nausea and vomiting, but as my body got used to it the side effects subsided.

There is a estrogen patch you can have Evorel 100 which might work better for you? It's more expensive so if you're an NHS patient that may be why you haven't been offered this?

I'm NHS and was given it when the Progynova didn't improve the thickness much and thought maybe the patches would work better.

Fingers crossed you get to the bottom of this. Xxx

that’s far worse, you must have felt awful! I’m so sorry. I eventually got some patches but same result. Think it’s literally a case of just putting up with it like we all do

That's it! I don't think there is much we wouldn't do on this journey to get our babies. Best of luck with everything! I hope your side effects subside and you're feeling okay xx

Hi, vaginal bleeding (breakthrough bleeding and spotting) is just one of a long list of side effects on this. If it stops again then you’ll know it’s just the drug and not your period I guess. I had awful side effects with it too, including crippling back pain, and begged my clinic not to have to go back on it again for my next try. They did say it was possible to do a non medicated cycle but they’d have to do frequent blood tests and monitor me constantly to check on the right time for embryo transfer (I’m only doing FET of ones I had frozen before). The drugs make things more straightforward for the clinic because the hormones dictate when everything happens so if you artificially put those into your body they can say with accuracy what date everything’s going to happen. At least they did give me this option, it sounds like if you’re not getting good communication you should switch clinic to somewhere else. Hope this helps xx

Please can I check if the back pain was constant? I’m on progynova and Lubion with awful lower back pain that’s there for most of the day, every day. It sounds like it might be the progynova causing it like it has with you. Thank you 🙂

Hi Bluebell, yes it was constant, and nothing helped me unfortunately, I tried heat / ice, gels, painkillers, nothing improved it until I stopped the pills. My clinic told me this is a normal side effect.. just to try to get through it :-(

I’m back on Progynova again at the moment for one last try (after an ectopic and 2 miscarriages) and this time my symptoms are much better, so maybe my body is more used to it or something. It hasn’t been as bad. Or maybe each cycle is just different. Sending big hugs xxx

Thank you for your reply 😊. My main concern is that the medication is masking a miscarriage, which is why the back pain is particularly bad. I think I could cope with the pain a bit better if I wasn’t associating it with a miscarriage like I’ve had before xx

I’m sure it’s just the medication, I get really bad period cramps on the progesterone that constantly feel to my body like I must be bleeding and just try to keep telling myself “no it’s just the medicine”, but it’s not easy! Good luck, hope it all goes well xxx

Hi, I used Progynova on two cycles. Like you, on the first cycle i had a rash and didn't realise it was down to the Progynova until i'd almost finished it. Stupidly i didn't say anything to my clinic as i didn't want to stop my cycle and it started to fade the longer i was on it. So when i had it the second time, i didn't get any rash at all. Maybe my body was adjusting to it. As others have said there will be alternatives you can take, it's just getting hold of your clinic to prescribe by the sounds. Sorry this isn't very helpful, just thought it might help to hear about someone elses experience. The last cycle worked, so no damage done. xx

If you can stick it out please try, I was so ill on it honestly felt terrible but I'm 20weeks pregnant now and when you introduce progesterone the symptoms get better x good luck

When I felt a bit sick with them, my clinic were prepared to substitute with an additional estrogen patch. I would definitely ask your clinic if you can switch out to this. Good luck xx
