Poor quality FET or new fresh cycle?

I’ve just had an early miscarriage in my first fet attempt at a sibling, I had a double transfer of C grade embryos. I have one untested grade C embryo left from this cycle (egg collection at 40.5).

I have an appt in two weeks with my consultant to discuss, but trying to decide if it’s worth attempting to transfer the remaining poor embryo, or try another fresh cycle. I turn 43 at the end of next month, so aware that chances are low of it working.

My clinic charge nearly £3k for a FET and the new clinic I’m looking at charge £8.5k for a multi cycle package, so the FET is a good chunk of these costs, especially with low odds.

Anyone had to make a similar decision? Or things I should ask my consultant to help make my decision?

Thanks!

I can only speak from my experience (and don’t know if this helps) and my clinic graded embryos differently but I kept my poorly graded embryo and did a fresh collection because I was worried about my age etc.

I had 2 transfers from round 2 and one embryo left frozen of poorer quality.

I had a fresh transfer from round 3 (chemical) and then 2 frozen but when I came to do the fet, the clinic thawed the embryo from round 2.

Thankfully that embryo is now 3 weeks old.

Our consultant and embryologists kept saying that they wouldn’t discount any embryo capable of freezing and thawing.

If it helps, I had made a very firm decision on how much money I had to spend on Ivf and therefore how many transfers we had before I had to stop. While my poor quality embryo is the one that worked, I believe that success if down to luck more than much else and having the additional round gave me more options. Especially as I have a history of miscarriage and poor quality embryos. That’s just my circumstances though.

It’s a really sucky decision but your consultant would have seen situations like yours (and mine) a lot so would be best placed to advise you. X
