Low hcg

My blood hcg level (d10p5dt) was 27. Three days later hcg was 40. I have been advised to continue progynova and crinone gel and to check hcg level in 2 days' time.I am concerned because the second hcg level was not more than 2x of old value. I am worried about chemical pregnancy or ectopic pregnancy.

Has anyone experienced something similar to this?

hi there, sorry to hear this. My last chemical my hcg was 26 then increased to 49 I believe, then a few days later started to drop. So it sounds like you’re having one too, sorry about this x

Thank you for the reply. Research I found so far says 18% chance of live birth. I am cautiously hopeful but trying to mentally prepare myself for lower hcg value for the next hcg test. And praying very hard.

The issue isn’t your starting point, it’s the second hcg draw 3 days later. In early pregnancy hcg should double every 2-3 days. Wanting the best and expecting the worst is the best strategy xx

Yes. Because the second hcg was only 40, I need to prepare mentally that it may be chemical pregnancy.

I got a feeling it might become a marathon. Got to make it as small as possible in my life so I do not overreact to the bad news...But having faith in God too, for a miracle.

This is so sensible ❤️ just know that, if it’s a chemical, then you’re meant to be extra fertile the following months, so hope is not lost xx

I have never heard of that. Unfortunately I will need to do egg collection as I have no more frozen embryos...

I’ll do one an egg collection in the autumn as well. We’ll get our happy news before long xx

Unfortunately the hcg today is 33, so Dr advised me to stop meds and recheck hcg next monday. Thank you for the support. Wouldn't have done it without you.

Really sorry to hear this, hope you’re ok. Chemicals are hard but as others say, implantation is a step in the right direction. Wishing you all the best with your next round, here for you if you ever need to chat xx

Yes I felt that it is likely that there was something wrong with the embryo that resulted in chemical pregnancy and it is better than having a miscarriage later which would require more intervention and delay in next IVF cycle. When I got the news I was quite in peace with it. After few hours later then the news sunk in and I cried a bit. Will need to find out what supplements to eat and change in diet before next egg retrieval to improve egg quality. And probably to request for PGT-A to improve my chances of getting pregnant. Hoppefully my AMH level has not dropped too drastically. My husband also keen to do accupuncture and take supplements before next egg retrieval. It is not easy for him too, having many needles poking him per session.

Any suggestions of supplements to take, diet change and additional tests to diagnose any possible reasons for chemical pregnancy will be greatly appreciated.

Bless you, it takes a while to sink in and I know the feeling is awful. I agree with it being better than a later miscarriage, having been through one myself.

Sounds like you have a solid plan in place. In terms of supplements, CoQ10 is recommended for both male and female fertility, Impryl for men, vitamin D for both.

Depending on your age and AMH, DHEA may be useful but you’ll need to check with your clinic on this particular one and whether it’s right for you.

In terms of tests, others on this forum have tried ERA to check when in their frozen cycle they’d be most receptive to an embryo. I don’t know whether you’ve been offered the thrombophilia screen but this is typically recommended after a minimum of two miscarriages. You’ve already mentioned embryo testing which can help improve implantation and live birth rates. Any questions please ask xx

How about vitamin A, C and E, omega-3 and melatonin? Not sure if ERA is possible as my embryo transfer is done in OT with GA. Might be expensive and laborious to do so.

Thank you for your comforting words. 🙏 Hope both of us succeed next round.❤

sorry I should’ve stated the obvious: prenatal vitamins! The best one in my opinion that includes everything you’ve mentioned (even omega 3) is pregnacare preconception max.

Really sorry I’m not familiar with those abbreviations, what’s OT and GA?

I hope so too! Xx

Sorry for using abbreviations! OT is operating theatre and GA is general anaesthesia.

Trying to find smaller tabs or caps for the supplements because I can't swallow tabs or caps that are too big...

Nenad in reply to Purple_skies

no problem, thanks for explaining! That makes sense. I haven’t done ERA personally and my doctor says there’s no need if there’s history of implantation, but I can see others in this forum who have had success with it.

Maybe look at the ingredients of pregnacare conception max and try to find the components yourself? Here’s the supplement link: vitabiotics.com/products/pr...

If you purchase from Amazon there are typically photos or illustrations of the caps you’ll get xx

Hello love, I'm sorry to hear you're going through this. I had low numbers that failed to climb quickly enough for my last pregnancy and unfortunately it was a miscarriage. I think usually with a slow climb like that, the news isn't generally good unfortunately. You'll know more at your next test though. xo
