Hi everyone,

I’m currently 5 weeks 2 days pregnant and I have terrible constipation.

Has anyone else had this and used over the counter remedies such as Senokot? Xx

I had this after one of my transfers - the pharmacist gave me some lactulose, which they said was the only thing safe in pregnancy. It did help, but took a couple of days. Hope it clears up soon, it’s very uncomfortable!

hi I’ve just asked about this to the nurse today and she said I could take something mild like lactulose. Keep drinking loads of water when you first wake up and try not to eat anything for like 30 min or so xx

Good luck !!

Thank you Hopewhite! I’m going to head to the pharmacy tomorrow. I drink lots of water everyday. It just doesn’t seem to help. I’ll try it first thing and see how I get on. Thank you x

I hope you are doing well xx

all the best of luck !! It’s truly awful , I had this last week and couldn’t see the light 😂, on the positive side it means your progesterone levels are high and hopefully that’s helping to create a nice environment inside xx

hi! Lactulosw definitely helps _ will take a few days to work though. I kept taking it daily to prevent constipation throughout my pregnancy. Also prune juice and lots of fibre helps

yup! Lactulose is good, I find it works after a few hours / a day - otherwise fybogel is also good, takes a bit longer to work but it’s very natural and helps :)

I agree regarding lactulose …it’s not a laxative but a stool softener. Take it’s in the morning and the evening. Lots of water /green tea helps too.

It’s a horrible feeling, hope you feel better. Good luck x

Prune juice and All Bran are your friends. Also there are some glycerin suppositories the pharmacist told me were suitable in pregnancy.

Not going to disagree with lactulose in the short term but I had to up my game big time throughout the whole of my pregnancy and took a combination of chia seeds, bran and prunes alongside already eating loads of veg and oats for breakfast - did struggle with some of this stuff early on though, especially veg. Make sure you drink plenty of water too!

Hi! I am sorry you are struggling. I have had constipation issues on and off during my pregnancy so far too (28 weeks now). Prunes became my best friend in such situations. I try to eat as many fruit as possible during the day too, that helps, particularly plums, pears and cherries. I hope you feel better soon!
