it’s me again With questions re how to get prescribed medicines in the uk .

I have recently had two transfers resulting one in a miscarriage early January and last one in April in a bfn. My fertility clinic is abroad; they have conducted further investigations for posible causes of the unsuccessful transfers. Doctors have prescribed some hormones to try and shrink a very small fibroid (outside my uterus). For context this fibroid was first “discovered” at my first histeroscopy back in 2018 at dundee hospital and the medics decided it was not worth doing anything about it. Cut to 5 years later the fibroid is still same size but doctors abroad want to try to shrink it as past embryos might have tried to implant on the very same spot where the fibroid gets its blood supply . I think it’s just very bad luck .. but resorted to try anything at this point.

My current gp has never been helpful - previous one now retired was quite good in getting me the meds for my ivf prep . I went to her and she doesn’t want to give me the prescription. I can’t travel at this moment to get it abroad.

How do one can go around this and get a uk prescription ?

If I go to an ivf clinic in the uk do they still need the prescription from my gp, are they independent on this ?

best wishes to all

M

Hope you get some replies to your query Is there maybe an another GP at the practice you could speak to or ask your clinic to email your GP ?

Hi. According to current NHS prescribing guidelines (which vary slightly area by area) fertility medications have to be prescribed by a hospital consultant.

See link for an example

Perhaps you could have a one off consultation with a fertility clinic in the UK or ask a private GP service?

Hiya. Get your ivf clinic to write the prescription then get it emailed to fertility2u, stork or asda.
