again me 🙈, right, my beta hcg came back 135 , got the meds that I need but phone my doctor and want to see me for a scan , that is abroad. I should be 5 weeks pregnant and doctor said is the best to have a scan to check everything is ok . I am very concerned about the long travel situation and flight. Did anyone traveled so early in the pregnancy and was ok ? Is travel safe ?

as you are 5 weeks I would think you could just go to your closest early pregnancy unit? I’m sure they’d see you here rather than travelling. Hope all okay xx

It seems very unnecessary to travel abroad for a scan, for 2 reasons...

First, you can likely visit an NHS early pregnancy unit for anything from now on, I had treatment abroad and the NHS were very happy to take on my care as soon as I was pregnant.

Second, really a scan this early is interesting info but the outcomes for baby aren't going to be changed or improved by having a scan. In the first trimester, with the possible exception of blood tests for progesterone levels, no other testing will reduce risk or change treatment plan.

You could maybe ask the doctor what he's hoping to see on the scan and how that would change his advice to you or change anything about your current treatment plan. 5 weeks is also soo early to scan! There won't be a heartbeat until 6 or 7 weeks so most clinics wouldn't agree to scan earlier than that.

there’s nothing really to see at 5 weeks on a scan at this stage HCG tests are more helpful to see if your numbers are going up as they should. A private scan would cost a lot less than travelling abroad and you should be able to have one of those in a few weeks (some places do from 6 weeks but more common 7-8weeks is what I’ve found) but unless there is any bleeding or cause for concern from your HCG or pain etc that could imply ectopic I dont see any reason to have a scan or visit the EPU at this stage and definitely not to travel abroad for it! Has your consultant indicated why they want to do the early scan? Xx

yes, is because I had a bleed at 4 weeks , and some mild cramp , they want to scan and put my right medication up or down , they changed my meds up since the bleed . Then the bleed stoped but I am still mild cramping. They said that is safe to travel as long I don’t do any efort or carry something with me . I can not have a scan so early in here mostly because I do not have the bleed anymore and for some cramps they will not do it . My clinic want to make sure there is something going on in my uterus rather than waiting until 7 weeks to find out . My bloods did went up at 48 hours. I am sure concerned about all this flying but they said is safe and nothing to worry about . 🙄

yeah there’s probably nothing to worry about flying but seems a lot of hassle for you when you can be scanned here and being scanned won’t change the outcome either way anyway 😢 xx

There's nothing to see with a scan until your HCG levels reach 1000. The sonograph may not be sensitive enough to detect anything until that stage. You risk going there, having a scan, see nothing, interrupt medicines, and still be pregnant.

I wouldn't advise having a scan that early, but do what you feel most comfortable with. Good luck!

spoke with my clinic and said again my concerns, they said that I can have a scan in here and send them back what is on the scan , I will wait until I am at least 6 weeks, I am very scared about the cramps , just hope is nothing bad .
