Hi all ladies, first of all I want to thank you all for being in here and for all the support ❤️

On my last post I was writing about my brown spotting and constant cramps , I insisted to the clinic to have an early scan than 8 weeks, we had eventually a scan on 6 weeks and 2 days , the baby is fine , have a heartbeat of 142 🥹, they found some kind and f blood around the embryo and said that will bleed for a wile and if is getting heavier to call the first unit for an emergency scan , I am happy that the baby is fine but very concerned about this hematoma ( that I think is call ) I was such in shock on scan that I can not remember asking to much about , how bad it is , or what should I do , or how long I will have this cramps and brown discharge? , they sendet me on midwife now and my next scan is on 12 weeks, I asked if I can have another scan between to check on and I was told no because is not good for the baby to many scans . Did anyone one had cramps/ bleed , hemoatoma , and everything was fine ? How long was the bleed ? Sorry for such a long story 🙈

My bleed is more like a brown spotting constantly since week 4-5 , it never stopped , is like on and off , some days I will have nothing and then brown discharge for a few days back on normal starting on spotting .

I was thinking it could be a hematoma as I have one too! It’s always the same size after 2 weeks, hopefully it will start disappearing soon. I hope. Did they tell you if you need to rest and are you taking progesterone? I am not bleeding since I increased from 1 to 3 pressaries per day but the hematoma is still there. Don’t worry because the baby will keep growing! Xxx

They didn’t said to rest or anything, just to carry on with the treatment and call the midwife for antenatal care , then said if is getting heavier to call the hospital for an emergency scan . I am on lubion injections 2/day , cyclogest 1/day, estrogen , 1 baby aspirin, folic acid +vitamind , prenatal vitamins +DHA , . I am so upset that I didn’t putted more questions and ask if it is a hematoma, how large it is , . .. I may go on private on 9 weeks to check if everything is ok . Can not wait till the 12 weeks scan 🙈

Hi Marianna, I was told I don’t need to be at rest but avoid my daily walks, don’t lift anything heavy, no sex, and to be off heparin and aspirin. Maybe mine is larger. Rest as much as you can and it will resolve. I’m like you, all the questions come to my mind after when I’m home! I guess when we are having the scan all we care about is seeing growth and heartbeat xxx

They didn’t mention to stop the aspirin, probably they forgot I am taking, I don’t know if should stop and see if I will still have the bleed , don’t even know exactly why I am on aspirin tbh , I was told to take 2 weeks prior Transfer and I was left like this on keep taking,

I wouldn’t stop without asking them first. Know that the spotting comes from the hematoma, only go for a scan if you have very heavy cramps and bleeding. I stopped spotting when I stopped clexane and aspirin, but the hematoma is still there although it has not grown.

Did you had cramps as well with the bleed ?

FrancyItaly profile image
FrancyItaly in reply toMariannaB

No I did not have cramps but your cramps could just be common implantation cramps as it is very early days. My hematoma was discovered at 9 weeks, I felt some soreness in the area but not cramps xxx

It’s absolute rubbish that it’s bad for the baby to have lots of ultrasounds. There’s no impact at all on the baby. It’s the safest imaging you can have. I’m an IVF mum and currently 17 weeks with 2nd baby. But I’m also a doctor and that’s very poor information you’ve been given.

It’s absolutely fine to have a repeat scan whenever you want. Maybe book a private one for 2 weeks time? Or if bleeding worse, just go to local early pregnancy unit.

Sub chorionic haematomas are very common in IVF pregnancies. Usually cause no problems and self resolve.

Brown blood is old blood so i’d continue aspirin unless it’s fresh ie bright red. And call/email your clinic about the aspirin in the meantime x

I am glad you confirm this, I’ve had weekly scans (even 2 per week sometimes) in my clinic due to my anxiety and hematoma xxx

Thank you , my midwife appointment is in 28 of June ( is a first over the phone appointment) at 8 weeks, I don’t know if I should ask her before to have an appointment with her about the scan ( if she can book me ) or just to go on private my self. I called the clinic about the baby aspirin and they said to ask my midwife 🙄

i also had a bit of a brown bleed around 6w6d and had my scan on 7w0d. All was fine with the baby and there was a heartbeat. However, like you i forgot all the questions after they said the baby was fine and came back home. But during my midwife appointment i did bring this up (just 4 days later). She was good enough to put me on a scan immediately to confirm everything including the growth once again. So I don't think multiple scans will affect the baby as they were ok with it for me. Also they mentioned, we wont listen to the heartbeat as that required a different machine which can harm the baby, so i could see the beats and they confirmed that beats were good.

Did you had any pain ? I do have cramps , my clinic didn’t look concerned about , my midwife appointment is in 28 of June

Babyrainbow profile image
Babyrainbow in reply toMariannaB

I did not have any major cramps. Even i was confused when they asked me this. Then the doctor explained that clinics are worried about is uterine cramps. They are actually unbearable and wont even let you sit or stand. The once you feel like small pulls on your lower abdomen or back like a AF cramp is not something to be worried about as thats the baby nestling (this was a new term i heard from them) as she explained it all.

Do you have any clinics that do ultrasounds after 7 weeks. If so you can check there as well, but just ensure that they do transvaginal ultrasounds. Abdominal ultrasounds may not show everything this early and you don't want to worry yourself unnecessarily.

I have booked for 27 of June ( 8 weeks)

I just want to reassure you that regular scans are absolutely fine in pregnancy. I had scans every week until week 12, with some even twice a week early doors due to me having OHSS and an infection. I then went on to have scans every 2 weeks up until delivery… my babies are perfectly fine!

I don’t know much about the bleeding but sending you lots of love and well wishes for a healthy pregnancy 💛✨🌈 xxx

Thank you, I booked another scan in 2 weeks time

I had exactly the same. Had a bleed at five weeks not a lot of blood 🩸but it was red which worried me but within three hours it had stopped. I did not know that I had it hence why I ended up at the EPU. It is worrying but I am currently chasing a very energetic two year old around who I was pregnant with at the time! Though it did worry me for some time after I just tried to use the logical side of my brain which was recalling what the doctors said and that they did not seem too worried about it. Sending you lots luck 🍀 and love ❤️

I had a hematoma. I’m 14 weeks tomorrow. I started bleeding at about 5 weeks until 12 weeks. Which, bizarrely, I just got used to. 🤣 I’ve to wear a pad everyday until about 12 weeks. I had a massive bleed at about 7 weeks, accompanied with cramping. I’ve had 5 scans now and every time everything has been fine.

There’s been a big research study done recently that’s said hematomas don’t negatively affect pregnancy outcomes. You can hear the main researcher sharing the findings on this podcast:

healthfulwoman.com/podcasts...

It really reassured me. I stopped googling and just focused on what they said. I hope it helps you too. 😘

Bizarrely, you can have bleeding all through the first trimester and everything be fine. And even bleeding with cramping (in my case) - crazy!

My 2nd scan, the hematoma looked bigger, which terrified me. But my 3rd and 4th scans showed it getting smaller. It had disappeared by the 5th scan, which was my 12 week scan.

My doc said hematomas are really common. He said he usually doesn’t tell women about them, because they just get reabsorbed and don’t cause any issues. In my case, it’s not causing any issue, but it’s ‘bleeding out’ as opposed to reabsorbing.

😘😘😘😘😘😘

Can I ask you if you had any soreness in the area? I do sometimes. My hematoma is still 2.5cm after 2 weeks and I’m resting a lot. I’m not bleeding and the baby is growing nicely x

I had an episode of horrendous pain! It was awful and I was convinced it was all over. It was after a big bleed, and the docs said it’s just my body trying to get rid of the blood. Baby was fine. Incredible really!

Also mild cramping is common in early pregnancy, so it could be growing pains as well. 😘

That is the thing, I wasn’t told I have a hematoma or how big it is or anything, I am upset that I didn’t ask myself as well, all I was told is that “ is old blood around the embryo, you may bleed for a wile , if is getting heavier then call the hospital “ my bleed is more like a brown discharge so far ( like on week 4/5 had for one/2 days started on red then brown light bleeding and since then have just this discharge on and off but accompanied by cramps / discomfort and a bad back pain . I did booked another scan in 27 ( I will be 8 weeks then ) my previous scan was at 6 weeks, and I will ask more about , is kind of scary on google when I read about , like I don’t even know if I do or not have a large or small hematoma , my clinic discharge me and sendet me to the midwife without making sure about that blood or anything. I asked for another scan at 8 weeks and they said no , is not necessary, and even advised me not to go on private because some how the hit from that ultrasound is not good for the baby and wait till the normal 12 week scan appointment with the midwife 🙄

FrancyItaly in reply toMariannaB

I’m confused looking at your scan. It looks like you have 2 sacks or is one of them the hematoma? Is the baby in the larger one? x

MariannaB profile image
MariannaB in reply toFrancyItaly

The hematoma is the larger one , is just one sac on the left side ,

FrancyItaly profile image
FrancyItaly in reply toMariannaB

The pregnancy one seems to be well protected and not close to the hematoma, I’m sure it will be reabsorbed. Just ask about aspirin and take it easy, you will be fine xxx

Thank you, I did asked about aspirin at the clinic, they told me to carry on until I have my appointment with my midwife at 8 weeks and to ask her if I carry on till 12
