hi everyone, been going through treatment for 2 years, my clinic said at the beginning I had a cyst on my left. Played it down saying very very small nothing to worry about. Well it now is a problem, but the clinic have pretended for years it hasn’t been. It now measures 10 cm and looks likely to be operated on after hospital scanned it after a miscarriage. I had no idea it was that big it now holds the risk of taking left ovary with it. Obviously very upset as halted all prospects of further fertility treatment. My question is has anyone been through this before and could offer any advice?

Hi I am sorry that you had suffered a miscarriage and for what you are facing now with the large cyst, have they said what kind of cyst this might be?
a similar thing happened to me a few years ago, I had a small cyst that I was not aware of, then during my first attempt at icsi in 2018 the cyst had grown to 10cm, It was described as a chocolate cyst (endometrioma) I was sent back to gynaecology where I had to have this removed via laparoscopy in 2019 and was then diagnosed with endometriosis.
I am not saying this will be the same in your case because yours might be a different type of ovarian cyst. they say anything under 5cm then they were happy to carry on with fertility treatment but when it gets large like this it can cause issues during treatment.
I too had no symptoms of the cyst. I had waited nearly 1 year before being able to have it removed, it did not grow any bigger in the wait and did not affect my ovary during removal.
I hope you can get a plan ahead for the next steps x
thank you very much for sharing your experience, hearing from others makes you feel less alone with it. They have it as haemorrhagic or dermoid unsure and have another scan end of Feb. It looks as though I do have endometriosis which I wasn’t informed of over the last 2 years I’ve never been given the full picture. I even asked is there anything I should be doing? Going to my gp to have a closer look? Assured me all fine, turns out it wasnt. I’m now fighting to get my medical notes from them which has been over a month. I think when going through fertility treatment you always have a plan going forward and I would have made different choices had I been given all the information. Thank you
It can be very frustrating not knowing what was going on with your body , to my knowledge the diagnosis of endometriosis is very complex and usually only via laparoscopy so I expect this is why you were not told for sure. I hope you can access your medical notes soon, hopefully the next scan will give you more insight and a plan for the treatment for the cyst will probably take place after this. To reassure you they usually leave certain cysts alone during ivf treatment if they are small as removal sometimes can lower amh levels temporally so I expect this is a reason why they did not think it was anything to worry about over the last 2 years, obviously now it has grown so large it cannot be ignored. During my latest treatments over the past few years I have had cysts on ovaries again and been able to carry on with ivf as they have stayed below 5cm. x
