Hair loss after miscarriage and IVF

Hi Ladies,

I hope you're all keeping as well as can be.

I had a miscarriage about 6 weeks ago (it was a medical management - due to heartbeat stopping at 6 weeks) but I didn't have the miscarriage until the 9 week mark.

I had another previously in July this year.

My hair, eyelashes and eyebrows are all falling out! I can see new little eyelashes growing, but my hair feels awfully thin and it's just so upsetting after everything else.

I'm hoping someone can tell me that is stops and that it'll start growing back soon, and it's all hormonal.

Has anyone else had this? xx

First of all I'm very very sorry for all you've been through!I had two miscarriages this year too and after both I have a horrendous hair loss too. My scalp is also so dry, when I have a shower it's literally like strands of hair coming out. On top of that my hair gets greasy in two days which has never used to be the case with me.

What I found helpful is not washing my hair with too hot water, I've ordered one supplement from Amazon to help reduce hair loss Rosemary essential oil for hair growth. Biotin tablets would also help strengthen your hair, pantene's micellar shampoo with rose water. Also avoid all strong masks and conditioners for some time, less hair straightening and hair drying. Once the hormones settle, the hair loss will settle too.

thank you, and I’m so sorry you’ve had such a hard year too - it’s horrible isn’t it. I’m taking new multi vits and trying to wash my hair less etc. I know I’ll be a cycle but it’s just so hard to literally see it falling out every day! Especially my eyebrows and eyelashes lol! Not a good look!!

I can relate to the hair loss I think it is quite common after ivf & pregnancy , I had a failed Fet in June & 3rd egg retrieval in October , my hair had been falling out so much these last few months , it must be all the hormones & drops in them after treatment & pregnancy, after my pregnancy last year my hair was falling out loads too.

I just carried on taking my pregnancy vitamins or pre conception vitamins , & not to use the hair dryer / straightener so much

It has settled down now . Hopefully yours will soon once your hormones are back to normal xx

I've had 2 miscarriages this year, the most recent 8 weeks ago. I seem to be losing a lot of hair lately too and I've been wondering if it was because of that. Hair generally does stop falling out during pregnancy and then starts to come out drastically a couple of months postpartum - I remember it happening when I had my daughter - so it makes some sense that it can happen after a miscarriage too, but it does seem like an extra slap in the face after all we've been through. Don't really have any advice except it DOES stop and it WILL grow back. Sending big hugs xxx

I had a miscarriage end of Aug & my hair & eye lashes has been falling out since. I had no idea why until I just read your post!
