Low Amh : IVF vs IUI.

Hi I am looking for people who may share similar situations to share with me:

My situation : I got pregnant without med this year, but had a missed miscarriage at 7w4d.

The positive side is that it worked after 2 attempts.

Because I am 41, single, I decided I would try IVF. I did 1 cycle, turns out I am a low responder, my AMH is below normal, but my other hormone levels are normal. I only had 6 follicles and only one matured and I ended up ovulating naturally. So I didn't even get to the egg retrieval phase.

The only thing the hormones did were messing with my natural cycles, that are shorter than before now.

Now I am debating between just doing IUI or trying other IVF cycles.

I am stuck because I don't see the point of doing all the stimulations for just one or 2 eggs, when my body does ovulate without meds and the chances that the blastocyst takes are so low (for my cohort).

I just want to see different views in order to make a decision.

PS: I have asked doctors at the clinic, they are advising to do IVF again but I am not sure the advice is uninterested. In low responder cases the chance of success is marginally increase with IVF.

I have also been advised donor egg but after this 1st attempt and being single, it is too early to resort to this solution.

Thank you.

Hi CBFRHK. Why don't you set a target of perhaps 3 IUI's and if not successful then try IVF? At least you would be less likely to mither about which way to go. Obviously, your specialist is there to guide you and give you his/her best advice. Good luck with whichever way you decide to go. Diane

hi lovely! I'm in a similar position. tried 2 rounds of ivf which didn't work. I don't respond well to the medication. I have low amh and varying FSH. But clomid works for me and I produce good sized follicles on it. I've decided to try iui because of this. no idea if it will work, but thought worth a try! x good luck

Thank you very much for your reply, it helps knowing that other experienced the same. I will try iui and see if I have better outcomes. I have spoken to different doctors and they tend to blindly oriented to IVF, which to me feels disingenious. I found a doctor who actually listened and actually answered rationally, taking into account my circumstances.

I would love to hear about how it when for you as well. Baby dust to you.

Hi just following up on your reply, I tried iui with letrozole and it worked for me. Currently pregnant, and crossing fingers that this one sticks. If not already, I wish 2023 will be your year too. Baby dust to you.

Hi, this was me. Poor responder, low AMH, never more tha than 1 egg per cycle regardless of the stims. I gave up on IVF and tried IUIs. Got blighted ovum from the very first one, after that we just did an at home IUI because my partner's sperm was good enough for that. I ended up pregnant after the 2nd try and baby is 15 months now. I recommended just doing IUIs and hoping to catch that good egg. I was 41 when I got pregnant and 42 when I gave birth, so same age. We need around 12 eggs to find one good one, so it may take several cycles to get it done but it's possible. You still have some time before having to use donor eggs.
