It’s been a while since I’ve posted on here. I do pop on here now and again and still follow everyone’s journeys. I feel everyone’s stress and anxiety believe me and wish you all the best.
I’m not sure I ever felt that positively about people posting about trying for a sibling so if this is a trigger then please do scroll on by. I’m well aware that people are trying for number one….
If you’re still reading then we are trying for a fourth transfer for a sibling for our daughter (5 years in the making through IVF and probably wouldn’t have made it without the support here). We don’t have great quality embryos and have 2 mosaics left. For anyone with experience about embryo testing and transferring mosaics, I’d be so glad to hear of your experiences please.
Thanks so much for reading 😊

I have quite a few mosaic embryos so I've been looking into this myself honestly! The new research from the last 2 years has shown that most mosaics have nearly the same chance of a viable pregnancy as a euploid embryo. So it's very encouraging! Are yours low level mosaics? Whole chromosome or segmental? I'm going to be transferring one of my mosaics by the end of the year fingers crossed xx
They should have a really good chance then! Segmentals have pretty much the same chance as euploids, and low levels only a tiny bit lower depending on the study you read. In general the chromosome affected doesn't matter much. When tested at birth over 99% of "mosaic" babies test as euploid / normal, so it pretty much just self-corrects (or was inaccurate). Wishing you the best of luck too xx
Me too! I'm so glad I looked into it more honestly, because at first I felt they were not good. I just noticed that you said you have a partial 7 deletion, which is exactly the same as mine! 💗 I'm just about to have surgery and then I'll be transferring him as soon as I've recovered. Will you be transferring soon? xx
Ahhh fingers crossed for both of us then 🤞🤞. Assuming you’re in the States then if you know it’s a boy? We will be transferring in the next few months (not sure if before or after Xmas as yet)X
Thanks, I'll be keeping mine crossed too! 🤞🏻🙏🏻 Looking forward to seeing your updates! Yes, I'm living in the states right now, so I can see the genders which is kind of interesting! xx
Hi hifer I have some mosaics but we haven't transferred any yet. I think success rates with mosaics will depend on the following:
- What the type of mosacism is, so whether it affects part of a chromosome (a segmental mosaic) or a whole chromosome. Segmental mosaics are understood to have the best chances.
- The level of mosaicism, so whether it's low, moderate or high. There was a very well conducted study in 2021 which effectively showed that low and moderate level mosaics had just as good a chance of leading to a healthy live birth as euploid embryos. You can find a summary of it here: remembryo.com/no-difference... There's a paywall on this I think, but I believe you can sign up for free and read a couple of articles on the website per month.
- The specific chromosome affected and whether the abnormality involves a missing chromosome or an extra chromosome.
- The grade of the embryo, with better grades having more implantation potential.
If you'e not done so already then I'd recommend booking some time in with a genetic councellor from either the lab that tested your embryos or at your clinic, as they should be able to provide you with much more information on your mosaic embryos.
There's also a Facebook group called 'My Perfect Mosaic Embryo' which I'd also recommend you check out. There are plenty of people on there who've had success with their mosaics and you can search for the particular chromosome abnormality your mosaics have to see if anyone else had success after transferring these.
Thanks so much, and for all the info. Yes, we have a couple of low level mosaics and I think we’ll be transferring a partial 7 deletion first. We’ve spoken to a genetic counsellor and our embryologist, and my current consultant and tomorrow I speak to the clinic Director who should be able to confirm which embryo they definitely recommend we transfer first. I am actually in that Facebook group and have posted (and others with the same LLM as me have also commented). Just covering all bases by posting here as transferring mosaics in this country is still so new. They have been doing it in The States for a while now.
Sounds like you have it all covered then. Transferring mosaics does seem to be very new in this country and I know some clinics aren't very comfortable with transferring them at all, but that does seem to be changing as they start to understand them more. Wishing you all the best for your next transfer
Yes agreed. I think my clinic is in its third year of transferring mosaics but they still seem to not be quite sure what to do with me 😆. Thanks for the link and wishing you lots of luck too 🙏
Just wanted to say hi lovely!! I am zero help on mosaics but from google it sounds like there are lots of success stories despite them being mosaics.. hope you get some answers and hope all is well with you. Heaps of luck xx
Hi hifer, I am no help I’m afraid but I just wanted to say hi as I’m sure I remember you from on here quite a while ago! Best of luck with trying for a sibling, we’re in the same boat, 5th times the charm, hopefully!!x
I’m triggering tonight for egg collection Friday. Last round for us for a sibling, I’ve had 3 failed FET’s and a failed fresh round already so we’ll just see how this one’s goes!x
Hey....long time no speak! My understanding of mosaics are the same as the other have said and you've obviously done your research. Just wanted to wish you loads of luck going forward, so brave to be thinking about starting again!!🤗🤞🏻😘
Thank you my lovely. I’ve missed you! We only have 2 mosaics (and a very poor quality ‘normal’) so max 2 transfers if we decide to do both. No EC for me! There is an end in sight this time round. (Although never say never right?! 🤪) Hope you and the twins are doing really well? Xx
Awww thank you! I always feel a little warm glow when I see a happy update from an old timer like myself!! Oh no egg collection is bliss, hopefully you get your little extra dream from one of these embies. Gosh I've seen so many people say that their good embryos didn't make it but the poorer ones did....where there is an embie, there is hope!!🤞🏻 The boys are good thank you. I'm finding it extremely hard work but maybe that just my age😬 I think we are looking to donate our last embryos, I'm too old to try again and good lord nursery is sooooo expensive!!🤯 It's been such a tough 18 months, and not a very happy time....I think you knew I lost my Mum in Jan to cancer and my Dad passed away in June suddenly....sure it was a broken heart. So I'm desperately trying to keep it together with all the legal stuff and my brother not coping very well.....things can only get better, right?! Keep us posted with how you get on, I can't help buy watch for a few oldies on here and you guys brave enough to go again!!🤗🥰
We have a mosaic embryo in the freezer. It’s low level with a segmental & whole chromosome deletion (can’t remember which chromosomes are affected off the top of my head - I think possibly 2 & 20). I spoke to a genetics counselor who advised that the impacted chromosomes could either lead to three possible outcomes: 1. Failure to implant (most likely if the cells with the deletion in took hold) 2. Normal baby (if the mosaic cells died off & left healthy ones) or 3. Severe autism. She didn’t recommend implanting it but advised us to try a completely new cycle and compare what we got from that cycle to the existing mosaic embryo and then decide from there. Best of luck to you! Xx
I am sending you a link below, which I found a few years back when I was looking to PGS test my embryo's as my doctor said I should consider it.
Please push through the article as parts might be a tough read or a trigger, but I am hoping it will provide you with hope. I have seen some responses below and they kind of support this article that there are lots of positive stories out there. I have to say it really helped me relax when I read this and we opted for no more testing after reading this article, but I am not trying to influence you on that choice. It is just what we decided.
If you cut and paste into a search engine it will work.
Sorry, it wasn't about testing further - I just didn't want you to think it was. If you read the article you will see what I mean. Hope I haven't offended and hope it helps you like it did for me.
Gosh no, you haven’t offended at all 😊. The link doesn’t work on a phone by cutting and pasting. I’ll try from a laptop tomorrow. Look forward to reading it xx
