hi all, had the scare of our lives yesterday when I started bleeding heavily out of no where and it lasted around an hour, then tailed off. We have a scan today at 1pm but I just wondered has this happened with anyone else and had success? I’ve read that with donor eggs some women do bleed in the first trimester (I am 6 weeks) due to hormone levels? I think if I’m honest they will say we’ve lost the baby but just one last attempt at some success! Thank you x

Gosh what a worry for you, I am so sorry you are going through this but so glad you have a scan today and they are looking after you.
I have been on this forum for years and I have seen a large number of women have random bleeds, especially earlier on. Often there is a little sac of blood in the uterus but sometimes they never seem to get to the bottom of why.. either way it doesn't always mean its disastrous news and I have seen a lot of people bleed and then go on to have a successful pregnancy. The fact its stopped has got to be a good sign and I wish you heaps of luck and hope you are one of those who its found to be something random and all is well with the baby x
thank you so much! I needed to hear this, anxiety is through the bloody roof!! Just couldn’t believe it yesterday! Thanks again xx
Hi Franjohn. By now you will have had your scan, and I do hope is well. Sometimes as the placenta is developing a bleed can occur. Thinking of you. Diane
thanks Diane, we saw a heart beat and everything looked good. Such a relief! I do wonder if it’s something to do with the fact it’s donor egg! X
hi fran! I had a bleed at 12 weeks that lasted a few weeks. Baby was fine but no one could tell me why until I went for a private scan and they found a SCH (a hematoma at the corner of my placenta). I told my nhs clinic what was found and they monitored it but thankfully it cleared ( my little one was born in July )
Like you my little one was donor egg but I had read these things are common in IVF pregnancy not specifically donor egg pregnancies.. advice was to take it easy, no lifting, keep any exercising to a minimal or stop completely for a while, anyways wishing you lots of luck xx
hi Franjohn,
Wooo! So pleased to hear it’s all well. Congratulations!
Fellow donor egg recipient here! I had a bleed, 2 on fact at 5 weeks. Very similar to you - large amount that tailed off very quickly. The nurses put it down to the cervix. It becomes really vascular in pregnancy due to hormones and the progesterone pessaries can irritate it and cause bleeds. So I changed my pessaries to suppositories (in the back rather than the front) and I didn’t have a big bleed again.
Now the proud mum to beautiful twin girls ❤️ The most perfect gift I could ever receive and I gave my infertility to thank 🥰
Xx
that’s so good to know thank you very much. Yeah I think I may do the same with my pessaries, honestly I didn’t stop crying on Sunday, I was convinced given the amount of blood we were losing the baby! Even the doctor at the hospital said given the amount we should prepare for the worst. Safe to say I slept a lot better last night!! Just need to get to the next scan now! All these years desperately trying and then the absolute stress of being pregnant!!! Thanks again x
Awww you poor thing! So pleased it was a good result for you l!
oh my god yes! For the longest time you are desperate to get those two lines, thinking it will be this momentous occasion when all this stress and torture you’ve gone through is finally over, only to be replaced with a different one! 🙈 try to enjoy it! The only way I coped was to fork out for private scans 😂 I couldn’t wait for the 12 week scan… but not everyone can afford that luxury. I don’t think I could now, what with the economic situation, but it gave me reasonable milestones to reach for with lots of reassurance. Xx
Yes, having no children yet I am still working full time and to be honest for peace of mind am happy to fork the money out!! I have next one booked for 2 weeks time, then I may even have one more before 12 week nhs one!!! Just find myself constantly over thinking every symptom!! Although I have started feeling sick and am bloody exhausted. Long May the symptoms last!! X
