disastrous final transfer

18 months ago We had 8 frozen embryos. Since then I’ve had 5 transfers, 4 of which were BFN and then in March this year I got pregnant but had a miscarriage at 9 weeks. Today I had the final little embryo transferred but the first catheter wouldn’t go in and had to be changed for a different type so the embryo went back into the dish while all that was going on. Then at the end I could see blood on some of the large cotton bud things. I did ask if all this means it’s less likely to work and was told unsurprisingly that ‘this is quite common’ and ‘not thought to impact the outcome’ which of course they will say, however, I can’t help but feel this has ruined our last chance. Has anyone had a similarly crappy transfer and then got a BFP. I’m really trying to remain positive but I can already feel my brain slipping into a negative spiral.

Hi Daffodils. That's such a shame, when it seems your other transfers were OK. let's hope that the struggle this little has gone through means he/she wants to stay. I have had quite a number of difficult transfers that have been successful, so we can only give out good vibes for this one. Diane

Thank you Diane; I am going to try my best to stay hopeful until test day x

Hi, my last transfer was the dream (bfn) but the one prior to that was horrible. They also had to replace the catheter and had real trouble finding the right spot/placing it. I had a lot of pain and cramping after and was convinced we’d messed it up but I did get my bfp that round. Loads of luck xxx

Hey yes i had a very similar transfer on my second round and there was blood, and embryo got stuck in catheter. It did result in pregnancy so didnt have any effect on implantation. I lost at about 10 weeks but i dont think that was connected. Currently in 2ww too and tbh my transfer was so smooth this time im actually worried hahhaha! Xx

this also happened to me recently, if you look at my posts you’ll see my transfer took about 45 mins and I had 3 catheters, 2 different doctors, the embryo was in and out the heater! I had a bfp. Try not to worry, it won’t affect the outcome, good luck xxx

Well, maybe it is not the same, but in my last transfer (Only BFP ever), the embryologist was standing there with the embryo like for 10 minutes. The fertility specialist seemed nervous ( less experience, as it was a saturday so the more experienced doctors were not there), she also hurt me with the catheter (which supossedly causes you small contractions that make implantation harder). Then i broke my foot 2 days after and had xrays, and I started with covid symptoms the day after the transfer (all that from stress to adrenalin, to specially covid during the first week, make implantation less possible). Had fever and all that, it was pretty bad. I thought everything that could be wrong was wrong. If the other embryos, transfers and doctors were so good and did not work, why would this cycle work? And then i got BFP :)

So hold in there, take your progesterone, and watch some tv. Try to not think about it. The last time i was on so much pain with my foot that i forgot all over ththe FET for the first time ever.

Hi Daffodils I had similar on my last transfer, they couldn't get the catheter in so the Dr repositioned the speculum while it was in me which was uncomfortable still couldn't get catheter in so then he said I would feel a little pinch as he was going to use his fingers to aline my cervix, the nurse started rubbing my arm at this point and gave my husband a look which made him squeeze my hand tighter it really f***ing hurt. After more attempts he finally got the catheter in and the little embro went in. It took more than double the time of my pervious transfers and I was sore for days after. But I am now 16 weeks so the traumatic transfer didn't effect it. Fingers and toes crossed you have the same outcome x

Hello,

Your message really reminded me of my transfers. Not a nice experience to go through, huh?

In my case, all transfers ended in BFN. HOWEVER, I believe that this is due to my poor egg quality. In principle, I don't see why it should not work for you if they managed to place the embryo in your womb.

One last question, how did they managed to make previous transfers?

Don't discourage. You still have chances and I am crossing my fingers so you prove that despite the obstacles you can still get a BFP.

My dreadful transfer (wouldn't go in so went back to the embroyologist, then it got stuck in the catheter) was the one with a BFP! Don't give up hope :)
