After a grueling wait of many months, my husband is finally scheduled for a trial surgical sperm retrieval on 27th September. His previous sperm samples have found no sperm, so we're both on edge at this stage.
Does anyone know what happens in the event they don't find sperm? We're having a follow up on 10th October with our consultant and have already decided not to go down the microTESE route due to wait times and my age.
We've agreed we'd like to try sperm donor, but not a clue what the process is or how long it takes. I know I'm jumping the gun but if we get bad news on the day, it would be good to know what lies ahead.
Any experiences and tips on handling the day would be much appreciated!
Thank you lovelies xx

my husband had a failed micro tese, nothing found. He was discharged from the urologist pretty much straight away. We were private anyway and we started IVF with donor pretty quickly afterwards, it’s not a long process. The longest bit is waiting for the ivf doctors to be free for a first consult.
Hi Minniemouse. Just wanted to wish you both well with the sperm retrieval process and hipe they can find some sneaky sperm hiding away! However, it was good to read that you have decided to seek sperm donation as a last resort. I have so many familes that I have known over the years born from donor, so we will see. Fingers crossed for the SSR. Diane
Thanks Diane, good to hear of your experiences with sperm donor families. We've had some good counselling from our clinic, which has helped, although it's an ongoing process as it isn't a decision we expected we would ever have to make. Thank you for the well wishes too x
