I just wanted to post a little update as it’s been nearly 6 months since we had our Azoospermia diagnosis. Yesterday my husband had his SSR and they found sperm - 6 vials of with motile and twitching sperm. We are obviously so so over the moon.
I couldn’t find much about Azoospermia when it was first diagnosed so I hope this gives anyone else in our position some hope that sperm can be found!
We’ve got to wait 3 months for me to start my short protocol as they want my Husband to be on standby for another SSR if the thaw doesn’t work out.
The wait is frustrating will be 12 months since our first consultation until we star treatment but we have Covid 19 to thank for that. In the meantime I’m going to prepare myself for treatment. I’ve cut out alcohol and caffeine, changed our diet and going to be start acupuncture. Can you guys recommend any other prep for short protocol ICIS? Xoxo

That’s really great news and you must be over the moon you can move forward now. Although I agree the waiting times are infuriating at the best of times, not helped at all by the current situation. You really do become an expert at waiting and living in limbo when you go through ivf. Sounds like your on the right track to use the next few months to make yourself feel as good as possible, healthy eating and exercise is the best prep you can do. Check out the instagram community for amazing ivf support and the mindful ivf app is also really good once you get stuck into treatment. If you’re into journaling then there are loads of lovely ivf journals you can buy to help manage mental health and also just take some time to focus on doing the things you both enjoy together and have some fun before you get stuck into treatment as it can feel overwhelming once you’re in it. Good luck!
That’s such great news! Always a relief when they find sperm!! Once my husbands sperm was found, I started taking the supplements suggested in “It Starts with the Egg” and doing the dietary requirements, and avoiding BPA. I just wanted to make sure I did everything in my power to provide good eggs after all the operations my husband had been through!
That is amazing news! My husband is the same, although when they did the SSR, they couldnt see any movement in his sperm He is going to be on standby for SSR when I have my egg collection too, so fingers crossed! I never expected or knew that that could happen, but looks like it is.
All this waiting is so hard I know, and I have no advice for you, nearly a professional waiter at this point
Thank you! If certainly felt like a good day and think in this journey you have to take any small positive when you can don’t you!
They were concerned on the motility of my husbands too so he will be on standby as well! Hope everything else is going in the right direction for you ❤️ Xoxo
We are currently waiting for an appointment for my partners SSR after being diagnosed with azoospermia in March. Congratulations on your success, I was just wondering what tests your husband had and what his results were like, if you don’t mind me asking? 😊 Good luck with the next step in your journey! X
Hey, of course I don’t mind 😊 it was the hormone profile blood test to check his levels. This came back normal so they were confident of finding sperm!
The other test he had was the cystic fibrosis gene mutation one. This came back positive which is likely the reason for his azoospermia. I then had to have the CF test too as if I was positive it would have increased the chance of any future child having cystic fibrosis and they take you on a different treatment path if this is the case.
Message me if you have any questions on it at all 😊
We are now waiting (two months to go!) for my short protocol to start with my husband on stand by for a second SSR if needed on the day of my egg collection.
Thank you for replying 😊 we still don’t know the cause for my partners azoospermia. His hormone profile was normal as was cystic fibrosis and chromosome test so keeping our fingers crossed. We’ve recently sent off the paper work and are awaiting a date for his SSR. So scared but trying to remain optimistic x
