Hi, this was my first round of IVF. I had 3 matured eggs but none of them fertilised. We had IVF instead of ICSI and for some reason there was no connection built between the sperm and the eggs.
Sperm and egg quality were normal. I am not sure what to do next. Has anyone had this before and became successful in next cycle or so? Thanks for any advice.

Im sorry your cycle wasn’t successful. I had a really disappointing first cycle. I’ve heard lots of other people say it can be a bit of a trial run and that’s how I think of mine but it depends what you want to do. I had a better second cycle but no success yet.
Worth asking if the eggs collected were a number expected or if they recommend icsi?
or should they change your protocol or drugs? We have always had icsi and I’m not sure we would have anything fertilise without it!
Big hug x
I am so sorry your first cycle wasn't successful, its so hard because you build up so much hope for it, you must be so upset.
The reality is that its not unusual for the first cycle to fail, like Dontknow says often the first cycle is a bit of a trial run as they have to treat you as a profile of person based on age, AMH etc., you will have a review appointment where they will talk through what happened and now they have more insight they know what to change. My first cycle I got 3 embryos only 2 survived to day 3. They changed my protocol (changed to short) and also did ICSI rather than IVF and I got 13 eggs and 9 embryos and 3 blastocysts - so a lot can change. Try not to despair. Heaps of luck x
My first cycle was just IVF and only 2 out of 7 fertilised, second and 3rd cycle we did ICSI and all eggs injectioned with sperm fertilised not all made it to blastocyst though. I had fresh transfer on all 3 cycles and 3rd cycle had some left that we have been able to freeze. I would discuss ISCI with your clinic when you have your review. It not uncommon for the first cycle to be unsuccessful hope you have success in the future 😊
Thanks we would definitely go with ICSI next time. I have lower AMH and produce less eggs it's not worth risking the fertilisation with tradition IVF. I am still in shock from TFF.
Hi Carrie, hope you are okay? SO sorry to read your story, we had similar we did IVF & ICSI with failed fertilisation both times. Unsure what to do next - how are you getting on? x
