Hi everyone, had egg collection on Monday and only got one fertilaid egg. Apparently the issue is with hubby's sperm not penetrating it. We've been advised to have icis if this one doesn't work. Has anyone had experience with this? Wondering what the success rate is! Xx
Fertilisation with ICIS: Hi everyone... - Fertility Network UK
Fertilisation with ICIS
Hi me and my partner were told theres another 10 to 15% more success with ICSI . Our clinic is 45 %.. as you only need one sperm ..good luck hope u will be lucky with one u got or next time with ICSI xx
My husband and I had a similar issue so they did icsi the first time and it worked for us . I'm 35weeks pregnant and can't wait to meet our little one so hope you have the same success as us xx
Hubby and I have had ICSI with donor sperm. 17/25 eggs fertilised, now waiting for a frozen ET. ICSI guarantees the sperm penetrates. Best of luck to you, it only takes one xx
Hi, as above we had icsi from the start. They select the best sperm and Inject one into each egg. Great results for us. I am now 31 weeks pregnant with our little girl. It is great for male factor issues. Good luck. Xxx
Thanku everyone!! Xx
Hi Katie,
We also had ICSI in the end due to my hubby having a poor sperm count. We were told they were going to do half and half for us half IVF and half ICSI so we stood a better chance but in the end we were told they did all ICSI as only 3 fertilized out of 6, I had the one embryo put back and found out last Friday im pregnant.
I wish you all the best with the one you got or ICSI. Never give up in hope it can happen with just the one egg and embryo. XXX
Hi Katie. Obviously, I am keeping everything crossed that your little embryo continues to grow. Regarding ICSI, in my years of experience, I find that “normal” IVF needs to have lots of good “swimmers” to penetrate the eggs harvested. If there is any doubt at all, then ICSI is usually recommended, so that at least we know the sperm is inside the egg. Lazy swimmers are fine to use, as all the genetic information is in the head of the sperm. If you look at a few clinic success rates, you will see that in most cases higher success rates are achieved through ICSI, so be encouraged by the advice you have been given. Diane
Good luck with your little embie!!! I may be inclined to ask if they'll consider PICSI with the ICSI. If the sperm aren't penetrating the egg, it may be your hubby has high levels of immature sperm. These sperm cannot penetrate as they do not have the requisite receptors on their head. And if an immature sperm is put in the egg it cannot make a competent embryo. Maturity cannot by seen by the microscope (or by IMSI) but PICSI can identify the mature ones. I hope this is clear but let me know if not! There is a test for sperm maturity (DNA stainability) but it's expensive. So if your clinic can use PICSI in conjunction with ICSI it may be good for you... Or at least as them why not.
Thanks everyone! My little egg didn't develop so we're back to stage 1 now! I'm being put on the long cycle this time and doing ICIS! Such a rollar coaster xx
Hi katied84, i am sorry to hear that your egg didnt grow. I had the same problem in my last ivf, we had to do icsi aswel, as hubbies sperm is not that great. I had 6eggs to start with and by day 3 it stopped dividing.
Now i am waiting to start the 2nd cycle, which will start around april/may next year.
Dont be disheartened and stay positive. When do you start your next cycle??
