Any Success Stories on Levothyroxine?

Hopingforamiracle19 profile image

Hi

So I've not been on here in a long time, mainly just been trying to chill and live a little without constantly being on the fertility train BUT my husband and I are about to go through IVF again soon so thought I'd come on here to get your thoughts!

My fertility consultant saw my TSH levels which were 3.2 and said he wanted them down to 2.5 or below to start the treatment so I've been put on 25mg of Levothyroxine and now on day 4 of tablets. My question to you all is has anyone been on this medication or, has anyone had this 'normal' level of TSH and gone on to Levothyroxine which worked and conceived naturally? Our fertility is still unexplained so wondering if this was my issue all along and my previous clinic just didn't treat it?!

Any success stories or advice would be great.

Thank you xx

Hello, I am taking levothyroxine for approx 1.5 year. My levels were 3.2 as yours and I was prescribed 50 mg. My levels are now at 1.79. I can’t speak for unexplained fertility as we are doing IVF. I had 5-6 transfers. 1 pregnancy that resulted in a miscarriage. I have no idea about impact of the medicine but my doctor is happy with current levels. I have no side effects at all, and I never had a transfer with my prior levels of TSH. All the best

Thank you so much for your reply and so sorry for your miscarriage. I went through IVF years ago and had a fresh transfer which didn't stick so im wondering now if this is why?! Who knows hey! Sending you lots of luck and baby dust for your next transfer xx

To be honest, none of my fresh transfers has stuck. My only pregnancy was with a frozen embryo. I am starting to wonder what else can be wrong since I only had one implant so far. Very frustrating

On the levo for last 1.5 years to get levels down ok for GP but for the fertility consultant he wants it lower. I am unexplained fertility and doing ICSI due to male factor.

I am on 50mg. I don't think it's my reason personally as the two rounds weren't successful but it's one of the factors of getting the best environment!

Thanks for the reply. Can I ask what your TEH level was please? Are you going again soon with ICSI? Xx

Hello I’ve been on levothyroxine for 10 years now. 5 years ago I had my son via ICSI/IVF. Just had my first frozen transfer in May but that ended in a BFN.

Hi, glad you got diagnosed early. After being on thyroxine since 2015 I have learnt ALOT about what not to do and how to improve thyroid function naturally too. Biggest mistake I made for years was not taking the tablets at the right time. My levels jumped all over the place, I felt tired all the time, put on weight and it played a part in my miscarriage too. So I researched and talked to groups and started taking the tablets in the middle of the night. I had been taking them at breakfast time, my doctors told me nothing and I feel stupid for not looking into it sooner. After a while I got use to waking at 2am (toilet trip anyway due to fibroids) also improving my iodine and selenium with supplements and Brazil nuts. My levels have been between 0.55 and 1.52 for two years now and I feel so much more alive. I hope this helps as the thyroid is just so vital to healthy hormones and body - like a second mini brain and mending it early is the key. Best of luck 💕

Hi. That's so interesting about what time to take them as I've been taking them first thing at like 7am but not eating for a couple of hours. Assuming taking them through the night has worked? So sorry to hear about your miscarriage xx

Hello- I had a tsh level of over 3 and approaching 4 when I started my first cycle of IVF. My clinic is part of a large teaching hospital and they said their research had shown that TSH levels needed to be below 4.5 for fertility treatment. I queried this (everything I read said closer to 1 was ideal) but they were pretty insistent. So I had my first round (NHS) and my fresh transfer didn’t stick. I stayed with them for my second round but as I was now paying privately I queried the TSH again and they agreed to put me on levothyroxine. My second round was less good in that I only got 2 eggs and only 1 fertilised however this resulted in my son so was effectively more successful. I don’t know whether it has anything to do with my TSH levels but if I have another round for a sibling then I will definitely be checking my levels and asking to be prescribed Thyroxine if they are high again. I was only on a small dose of 25. Good luck to you x

Hi Jane! Your experience is so like mine then, although I didn't even ask about my TSH last time as stupidly I just thought the experts know everything and surely they'd do something if I needed it...that was my only free go with the NHS too so feel it was a bit wasted now but never mind! Such good news it worked for you a second time and that thyroxine potentially played a part in this, I'm defo pleased I'm taking it! Thanks for the reply xx

It was confusing because I was seeing a naturopath who tested my thyroid and said it should be ideally 1 for fertility. But the clinic said they had done a lot of research and the head of the clinic was sure levels below 4.5 were fine for fertility. So hard to argue with medical professionals!I hope the thyroxine makes a difference for you! All the best x
