IVF and alcohol

Hi all,

I’m starting stims end of July, I have a couple of events booked in (weddings etc) and just wondered if anyone drank alcohol during treatment or just avoided it all together?

Obviously not after transfer but just during injections etc

A few drinks are not going to make much difference although having enough to warrant a hangover probably isn't going to mix with the meds well! My only caution is to make sure anything you do would not cause you to regret/blame it if the round is unsuccessful. xx

Hello! I probably had my last drink around 2-4 weeks before starting stims and then didn’t drink at all throughout treatment until I had my test result.

For me, not drinking and eating healthy etc was a way to feel more in control, plus I had bad headaches on the meds which would’ve probably have been made worse if I was drinking! I think maybe speak to your consultant and then decide what’s going to make you feel most calm throughout the whole process :) x

Hi Mlove. Just a small amount with soda/lemonade if you must. You will still enjoy yourself. Good luck! Diane

Hey, I normally don’t have anything once Stims have started. It’s not really made a positive impact on me. However I’m happy with my choice so I don’t have regrets etc.

Some thoughts on how to avoid alcohol during a busy social period…

I have recently tried a drink called nosecco (it’s a sparkling drink without alcohol).

Could you perhaps explain your situation and ask the host to ensure you have some non alcoholic beverages behind the bar just for you?

Sometimes plain cold tonic (without gin) is also nice.

Good luck with you cycle… xx

I avoided it 100% - my thinking was that if the cycle was unsuccessful I would blame my alcohol intake.

That being said I conceived naturally the month after a failed cycle on a night with some tequila!

I am doing a frozen transfer again soon and will be going t-total.

X

To be honest - the medicine made any alcohol make me feel sick. I literally couldn’t take a sip without it turning my stomach so that made the decision for me! Maybe it will be the same for you! Xx
