It all depends on where your NHS treatment is provided. We were lucky to have 3 funded cycles and were finally successful on cycle 3. Cycle 1 was in March, cycle 2 in June/July and cycle 3 in Oct. You can take your finding to some private clinics. We transferred our NHS funding to a Care fertility clinic as the NHS clinic was very slow and took months for appointments to come through. Good luck! xx

Thanks.. Can they provide same treatment protocol after failure of one cycle? May I know how do they transfer to private clinic from nhs?

You usually have a review appointment following a failed cycle to see if anything needs changing. Sometimes they won't need to make any changes. IVF is a numbers game so there's no magic protocol that will make it work sadly. Sometimes they can't give you a reason for why a cycle failed. To transfer you'd have to speak to the private clinics in your area and ask if they have a contract to take NHS funded patients. Care Manchester did hence why we went there xx

Hi, HJ841, I had my first cycle private with care even though I was given an NHS funded cycle which they did not give me a choice of which clinic to pick, Ive only had hubby sperm tests done on NHS everything else we paid private, I phoned the GP and asked them how do I transfer, they said speak to your consultant with no other information, but I wasn't sure which one so I left it at that, I would really like to move my next cycle as I like my care clinic. Thanks for the information, I'll do that for my next cycle 😊

No problem Ezra12. Each clinic that accepts NHS funding will have an NHS coordinator that deals with the funding side of things. If you speak to Care then they'll let you know if they can cover an NHS cycle there or not. Sending you positive thoughts for your next cycle xx

3 cycles sounds great! I didn’t even get the one my region offers (because of my endo and low AMH!!- terrible criteria over here). I’d say to take advantage of the 3 cycles as it will allow you to learn what protocol works best for you and IVF is so expensive… You might not need all 3 cycles to be successful but you truly never know until you get started. Hopefully you can find ways to speed up the process as HJ841 suggested, but it can still be frustrating in between cycles as it does take a bit of time to start the next one regardless of private or NHS funded. Good luck with everything!

My first cycle failed and I had my second cycle 3/4 months later which was successful. I'm currently 26 weeks pregnant. Time was important for me cause I was turning 40 so we kept trying naturally meantime. X

I had 3 nhs rounds and am pregnant from my final round. We had almost a year between each cycle however our second cycle got cancelled just as covid hit and all the clinics had to shut so we had to wait for them to reopen and then when we did get seen there were reduced numbers allowed and longer waiting times so it took much longer to get our third cycle. I would think if we had been there in more normal times it would have been much quicker. Good luck.

Hi! I think it very much depends on your clinic and seems to vary. I had NHS funded IVF but at Care fertility so at a private clinic who take on NHS patients. Never thought they delayed my treatment. Pretty much every time it was ‘wait for the bleed, will start at your next period’ for the next cycle. So really depended on my body not their availability? Never had to wait on them so that was great. But every clinic with the recent staff issue’s etc can be different of course.

Great to have 3 cycles funded as well! Did you have any embryo’s to freeze? As my clinic counts 1 cycle as 1 fresh transfer + 1 Frozen (if you had extra to freeze that is…).

Wishing you good luck with your next cycle!

Aah I understand. Always hard to make those decisions. Hopefully if you know you will get IVF funding it shouldn’t be a long wait but if you are still waiting for the NHS to do further testing to tick all the boxes prior to funding than going private might be quicker… either way good luck!

No advice really as I don’t have much knowledge re this - but my impression is that the initial wait might be a bit longer with NHS at the moment, but once you are in and start treatment - From what I have read it sounds like the next few stages goes quicker. So I did not think it was another long wait in between - I think that wait might be due to other things - like personal choice - or tweaking medication perhaps from one cycle to the next. And sometimes some seems to prefer to start next cycle straight away, while others wants to wait a few natural cycles before they go again! And I suppose it depends if you mentally also need time in between (all things you might not know necessarily before you start).

But it is great to have 3 funded cycles! It is such a postcode lottery it is awful. We were also lucky and got one NHS funded cycle! But I have read some don’t get any where they live. But you need to do what it right for you of course!

Wishing you all the best with your ivf!! Got everything crossed for you! 🧡

I had 2 NHS rounds, the first one was last April which failed and started the next one in the July, they increased my meriofert for the second round after having a consultation as I also have low amh and I got more eggs the second time, it was successful and I now have a 6 week old from it 😊

Thank yu..may I know how is yur AMH..I have stage 4 endometriosis.. May I know do they apply the same protocol or change into different one? I had my failed cycle in private..now I got my nhs cycle..so i m confused Where should I go? Do they apply the same thing after failed ivf?

We waited what felt like forever for our first round, but once that failed we started again 2 months later and again 6 weeks after that failed! So once you’re in the system it can be much faster (I think a lot of places want at least one period before starting another cycle so we’d have been no quicker going private at that stage). Like much of ivf though I imagine it will vary hugely from clinic to clinic
