FET - embryo downgraded at transfer?

Hello :)

We had our first fet today. We have three Frosties that were 5aa’s when frozen. Today after thawing we were told that it was a 3bb at the time of transfer but might plump out a bit. Is this normal for a fet?

Thanks :)

I can’t say I’ve ever heard of this before with the number, with the letter yes from an A to a B. I’m not quite sure how it can happen as a 5 means it’s already hatching and a 3 means it has formed a blastocyst but hasn’t expanded yet so I don’t see how it could go back in that way. I would try and get more info from the embryologist. Either way, a 3BB is still a good embryo so 🤞 crossed it becomes a baby xx

Hey, this can happen and does happen....probably more often than you think. If you are concerned you can ask the clinic for more info but hopefully that little embie is looking for a comfy spot right now!! Best of luck.xx

Yeah, I think we will send them a little email today! I wouldn’t have thought they would have used the embryo otherwise 🤞🏻

No they wouldn't. A lot of clinics dont degrade embryos after a defrost.xx

Hi there, this happened with my FET in January. Was downgraded slightly but embryologist reassured still a good embryo. Unfortunately it was BFN but I don't think that was down to the downgrading at all. Good luck xxx

Hi, I also had this happen on a fet although mine was a 5ab and downgraded to a 5bb, I was told it was nothing to worry about and that it could have just been that a different embryologist graded it and they can allgrade differently

I think the way it was explained to me (using my memory here so sorry if I don’t quite get the terminology right 😬) it’s because they are all ‘collapsed’ after thawing and they are looking for them to re-expand, sometimes it can take them a little longer to get to do that and the grading can therefore be different to when they were frozen. I’ve had ones that have been better and after thaw and ones that have been worse at time of transfer but it doesn’t mean that they won’t be expanding and hatching inside you 🥰 best of luck to you! Xx
