Tampons for early miscarriage/ chemical pregnancy

Hello

Sadly I've started bleeding today after confirmed early miscarriage and stopping my meds. I know the advice is to not use tampons but I actually hate pads, they make me feel dirty and I haven't used them since I was a teenager. Has anyone used tampons in a similar situation and been okay?

Thanks

Hey lovely,

I’m so sorry about your sad news. It’s really not advisable to use tampons when you’ve had a miscarriage as your cervix opens so there is a risk of infection in your uterus.

I hate pads as well and I’ve been through what you’re going through so I really do sympathise but pads are the safest option (you could try some period pants but the bleeding might be too heavy for them at times and I had some quite large clots). Sending you a big hug xxx

So sorry for your loss. I agree with Kibo. I hate pads too, I always have done but tragically have got quite used to them now with MCs and surgeries. I tend to change them more frequently than perhaps I need to just so I don't feel too ermm soiled? But you definitely shouldn't use tampons, literally the last thing you need right now is a horrible infection. Lots of love and hugs xx

Have you tried cloth pads? That kind that you wash and use again? I have no words to explain the difference between the disposable pads and the cloth pads! It breaths, it feels less sticky, it smells a lot less, produces a lot less waste etc. I actually made some myself for after the birth of my first child, and I so NOT regretted it!!! So that's my greatest advise ❤❤❤

Thank you all for your advice. I know I need to suck it up and just submit. Thanks sun-and-rain for the cloth advice. It's just so shit. Xxx

I echo what the others have said. It’s just that tampons could cause infection and irritation - and you really want to minimise the chance of infection. I know what you mean though, it’s much messier - but you’ll find that the bleeding dies down after a few days then you won’t be filling the pad so much. I’m so sorry for you it’s a such a hard time xxx
