Sperm bank question - I am really struggling to find a Caucasian donor who is in stock, CMV negative and can be used for treatment in the UK.
I've ruled out any American banks as can donate to an unlimited number of families which seems immoral to me. I have also ruled out using a UK sperm bank as the donor information available seems to be very limited (doesn't include any photos or audio) I have already exhausted the following banks, can anyone recommend any others?
Fairfax cryobank
Cryos International
European sperm bank
Sellmer Diers
Any suggestions anyone is able to make would be AMAZING!!
THANK YOU!

Owh sorry just saw you don’t want to use a UK bank. BFA don’t offer photos or audio but they do offer extended profiles which are quite detailed and include a celeb lookalike - we found this quite useful x
I just went with CMV positive for this reason, if you are doing IVF rather than IUI it’s virtually zero risk at all to have a CMV positive donor if you are negative. We used European sperm bank for our little boy xx
Thank you. The reason I have been avoiding cmv is that I wanted to minimise the likelihood of my child having cmv but may be I need to do a little more research. Thank you!! 😊
Yeah it’s quite hard to find info isn’t it! My clinic weren’t too helpful but I found info on a few forums at the time and on the sperm banks themselves. The way it was explained to me is that as not only is the sperm ‘washed’ reducing the chances of it being passed onto me (so subsequently to the baby) with IVF we don’t even come into contact with the sperm at all, only the embryo, so the chances of us catching it at that stage and passing to baby are so incredibly small that it’s virtually zero. Someone also pointed out to me that if I were conceiving naturally we wouldn’t know the CMV status of the man and people do that every day 😊. For me personally It helped me prioritise the other criteria over this (family health history, characteristics like my partner etc) over CMV status as I would still probably be waiting for the ‘perfect’ match and I am not very patient lol xxx
Hi, we used California Cryobank. You get a free 3 month subscription and will have baby pics, some adult pics, audio, essays, personality tests and extensive genetic testing including their family members physical traits and medical background . I think double check with whatever bank you use if your clinic has a contract and import certificate with them. Even though we found our donor and they can be imported to the UK our clinic doesn’t have a contract with them and it has been a lot of paperwork and back and forth to have our donor vials imported. My clinic has to apply to the HFEA for and ITE certificate which allows them to receive the import. It’s been 4 months since we purchased and it still hasn’t been imported from the US to the UK so we cannot start treatment without it. If we had chosen xytex or the European sperm bank which out clinic has a contract with we would of had it by now. For us we didn’t find any suitable candidates on there and the options were limited as we too chose a CMV negative donor.
