Are Buseralin injections meant to be this painful?

Hi all,

I did my first Buseralin injection today and it was agony. The needles the pharmacy have given me are crazy thick (0.45) so you have to push crazy hard to get the needle in and it's immediately left a huge bruise.

I was pretty surprised, as my other needles have all been tiny, and fairly worried since I have to take Buseralin for almost a month now.

I've left a message to check with my clinic if the pharmacy gave me the right needle. But also just wondering if anyone has any tips to reduce pain when injecting.

Thank you xxx

What colour are the needles? Normally you get a larger one to draw the fluid up then change tip to a smaller one to inject.xx

Hi Cinderella. There are large green ones to draw up and then "smaller" brown ones to inject—but they're still really thick and not v sharp.

There's a massive lump where I've injected and the whole area is bright red! 😅

I'm not surprised, I think they have given you the wrong size. See what the clinic say.xx

Thank you. Yes, I've been Googling and sounds like other people have used smaller needles to inject this particular drug.

I had pink to draw up and orange or yellowish (25G) coloured to inject if I remember right!xx

I spoke to my clinic and they refused to admit they ordered me the wrong needle. They said, "well you can have the smaller yellow needle if you prefer". Why would I prefer a larger needle if it's not needed?! 😤

Ha cheeky so and so's!!👊🏻 Defo get the smaller one, sounds like they know it's a mistake but not willing to admit it!xx

The pharmacy says there's a global shortage but thankfully found some yellow ones from last time at the back of a cupboard. Phew!😅

I got mine on ebay if you run short, you can get all kinds of sterile syringes.xx

According to my clinic, it's not the "wrong" needle but I can have a smaller one if I prefer. 🥴 Why would anyone prefer a larger needle?!

I have always been given these all-in-ones to inject buserelin - they're great as you can draw up the right amount and then inject, all in the one needle (no swapping). And it's a teeny needle. Definitely sounds like they've given you a poor choice needle. So sorry, how annoying 🤬. Hope you can get it sorted, bless you 😢 xx

Thanks, lovely. Yes! I was trying to explain what an insulin needle (didn't know the name at that point) was on the phone to the pharmacist but obviously didn't do a good job because he said "What you're describing doesn't exist!" 😂Thankfully I found some far less scary looking leftover yellow needles from the last cycle, so will definitely use those.

I also was given tiny insulin syringes for buserelin. Draw and inject with the same needle. You can buy some yourself if your clinic won’t change them-defo use the tiny ones, either insulin or yellow, brown are painful! Xx

The brown needles are my nemesis 😅. Thankfully I found I have some leftover yellow needles from last time. So relieved! Not sure I could have managed that needle of doom every day for another 3 weeks 🥴

Yeah I was given brown to use with Lubion by one pharmacy, which hurts to inject anyway, then yellow from a different one. Absolutely no need to be giving anyone needles bigger than required!! Xx

I'm on bureslin injections currently (I have a yellow needle) . Most of the time I feel nothing, but occasionally it feels like a dart going into my stomach and it stings for a good few mins after. Later on I look at the area and its just a pin prick, but did feel like a dart going in.
