Day 1 embryo feeling 💔

I’ve spoken to the embryologist today and of 14 eggs collected only 6 fertilised

2 got damaged with ICSI The remaining didn’t form why would this be ??

Does this mean the remaining 6 are likely to have problems after losing so many 😢

This period after EC is a very anxious time. You can’t think of anything else over the next few days. I know from 14 eggs collected you would have hoped for more than 6 embryos. But 6 is still a very good number. Try to stay positive as you have a real good chance with this cycle. I really hope your next update is a positive one. Thinking of you x

We had a recent collection where there were 12 eggs, 10 mature and 6 fertilised. By day 6 we had 4 good blastocysts. At every stage there will likely be losses. I think it is easy to assume that the number of eggs equates to the number of embryos but each bit depletes by something like 40-50%. Having 6 fertilised is still a good number at this stage, try not to be too disappointed as like I say the drop off is normal. Best of luck. x

Hi there. I can understand your disappointment at numbers as u want as many as possible but please don't be. That's a nearly 50% fertilisation rate which is great and more than I've ever had! I had 16 eggs and only 1 fertilised. That embryo is now 2.5 and hassling me for his second breakfast right now. I had 5 fertilised out of 12 eggs back in August and I was genuinely over the moon. 4 made good day3 embryos and I did get pregnant from one of them but unfortunately miscarried but still have hope for the others. Anyway I've sort of waffled on but don't get too preoccupied with numbers. It doesn't really mean anything in IVF. Just because you have more fertilised doesn't mean you will have a better chance of getting pregnant as having fewer.Xxx

Yes! Ah I see! That's good fertilisation rate for azoospermia!!! 😊 I have borderline PCOS apparently. Recently just tested positive for blood clotting issues which could have been the causes of my miscarriages too so gonna be on some blood thinners for next transfer too. So we're not a simple case either! 😂💗 Xxx

Our first round we were predicted masses of eggs and I would be at risk of OHSS, then I didn't respond as expected and we got 9. We weren't even supposed to have ICSI as my OH's results had alway been great but on the day they were unexpectedly poor and we did ICSI - of those I think 5 fertilized and then we got 2 5day blasts. The clinic (let alone us) seemed very disappointed with all this but then we were told something as simple as my OH having a cold a few months before was enough to cause the lower fertilization and drop off. However the blasts we got were top quality so not a 'batch issue' if you see what I mean. Got a BFP but didn't make it past six weeks and turned out to have stopped developing - probably a progesterone issue and not embryo. We had another round, and got 5 eggs (clinic disappointed) but all fertilized on ICSI and made it to blast. Fresh transfer ended again before 6 weeks (progesterone probably) but the FET straight after worked. So predicted or actual numbers didn't mean much for us and shows how two identical rounds within a couple of months can be quite different. Also, that there are soooo many variables and the first round is a bit of an experiment. You really do only need one and although it's disappointing not to have a lot a blasts, just because the others didn't make it doesn't mean anything for the one or ones that did - they're the fighters (my second ungraded embryo is kicking the cr*p out my my tummy right now as if to prove the point:)) x

We had 6 embryos and lost 2 so had 4 in the end. I am now pregnant with the transfer of the first embryo so anything is possible. It’s such an anxious time so how you are feeling is perfectly normal. The clinic will keep you up to date with what’s happening so just pray and hope for the best. I wish you all the luck in the world xx
