BMI & IVF

Can anyone remember if they were weighed again at their baseline scan & injection collection? I was weighed at the nurse app when they discussed dates going forward & protocol, but wondering if I’ll be weighed again? I’m starving myself and exercising like mad whilst trying to work my 45 hour week just to lose weight so my bmi doesn’t go up. I feel it’s doing me more harm than good and disordered eating has well and truly reared it’s ugly head after years of working so hard to escape it.

Good morning. I guess you are having nhs funded treatment? They only checked mine at baseline scans or when taking bloods for virus tests, which is usually beforethe baseline scan. Hopefully your cycle will be successful and you won't have this stress again.

Good luck!

Hey! Thanks for the reply! Yes it’s NHS funded IVF, we’re in Scotland. I’m hoping since they took my weight at the nurse app they won’t do it again at the baseline scan. This has by far been the most stressful thing about IVF, so far! It’s frustrating, they don’t take anything else in to account, like the fact I run 6 days a week, I don’t drink or smoke, I have a healthy diet; no caffeine etc! Typical! 🙄😂

Yes, my nhs cycles were in Scotland too, GRI. If you already started the pill or whatever you need to prepare for stimulation then I guess you will not be checked again. Good luck!!

Whilst there's some evidence about bmi and negative impact on fertility I believe within NHS it's primarily used as a way to restrict the number of people having treatment. And I get that with public funds they need to be accountable of how they use the funds, ie for people with most chances of success. But it strikes me as very unfair when in private treatment they are not strict at all when they check your weight. Anyway... all the best!

Hi, I was only weighed once by the nurse, this was when the doctor was inputting all of our initial information. My husband was borderline over so I thought they may request to weigh him again at a later date but they didn’t. Sounds like you’re having a rough time, fingers crossed they don’t weigh you again and your cycle starts so you can focus on that xxxx

They’ve never asked my husband anything like that, seems he can just glide through eating whatever he wants and being any weight! 🙄😂I’m on my hormone meds now, baseline scan & collecting injections in a week. Praying they don’t weigh me incase I’ve gone over again 🤦🏽‍♀️ X

I’ve just started too. I’d say it’s highly unlikely that they’ll do it again! It’ll have been for the data at the beginning. I’m in every two days now to see the dr. I only see the nurse for bloods. Best of luck xxxx

Thanks, this is good to know. Although unless my BMI is below 30, they won’t let me go ahead for NHS funded IVF. X

I see.I did IVF privately,no other option where i live.I am just telling you my experience so you don't get too stressed about weight, worrying that it will affect your results that much.

No no, now you've started meds they can't suddenly stop because you may have put on a couple of pounds. I lost 10kg to get my bmi to 29 but then went private anyway - long story. But I'm so glad I did. Have now put on 15kg in almost 9 months of pregnancy. Eeeek... Best of luck to you. X

Hi, Glad to hear a positive story!

I'm interested in looking at private clinics... would you mind telling me how you went about it and what to really look out for?
