Hi,
Hope all are fine.
Should BMI be exactly 30 to do IVF through NHS?
Mine was 30.7 when I checked today.
Has anyone done IVF through NHS BMI over 30?
Thank you all lovelies...

Hi Shanik, I was turned away in October because my bmi was 30.7. They said they might have let it go if it was 30.1 but they couldn't go ahead any higher. Unfortunately it's out of their control because everything they do is scrutinised and controlled by the government.
I have just started now after getting my bmi down to 29.7. It's not easy, especially when you know that bmi is a ridiculous system that doesn't work and has no reflection on your actual health.
Hi Woolooblue...
Thank you for your valuable reply first.
Could you please tell me how did you reduce your BMI?
It would be very helpful for me.
Thank you again.
I will preface this by saying I am not a medical or health professional. It is such a personal thing and what works for me might not work for you.
I made sure I was in a calorie deficit, and I prioritised putting veggies and lean protein on my plate. I drank lots of water and cut down my salt intake. I found healthy snacks that I liked (carrot sticks and sugar snap peas are my jam) but I still had a little chocolate from time to time so that I didn't feel deprived. At the gym I focused on cardio rather than weights so that I didn't gain too much muscle.
It was a means to an end. Now that I have passed the weight check I am continuing to eat healthy foods but i am less strict, and I am adding weights back into my gym routine.
hey shanik l, my BMI was 30.1 and they told me I couldn’t proceed until it was 30 or below. It’s so wrong and unfair as it’s not a true reflection on someone’s actual health. I managed to get mine to 28 my going on a strict diet and going for walks etc making sure I was burning more calories than I ate. Good luck I know it’s hard having to deal with this hurdle without the stresses of actual IVF xxx
it has to be below 30 not even a smidge over in my experience, you are nearly there though 🤗 remember and wear light clothes for your weigh in too and stand up nice and tall for your height as every little helps xx
I would recommend to read It Starts with Egg (or another book on how to eat for best fertility). When I really following all these diet guidelines I lost quite a lot of weight without a problem that I previously had problems loosing. I also noticed that my hormone levels were going up etc so I think it all makes sense on why it's better for fertility (I prioritised veggies and non-processed protein and reduced a lot of carbs especially fast-acting carbs). Best of luck for your IVF!
