How soon after positive covid to start FET

I tested positive for covid on 6th jan, my planning appt is on 12th jan for my medicated FET.

My question is how long after a negative test result could I start my medication?

Has anyone got any experience with this?

It’s our last day 6 embryo and we’ve been wondering whether to take the risk with it or not. Now getting covid I’m thinking is it a sign not to go ahead with it.

One of my day 5 frozen embryos didn’t survive a thaw so I’m thinking my day 6 has less of a chance.

I’m 40 in a few weeks too 🤦‍♀️

In total we had 6 frozen, 4 day 5 high grade and 2 day 6 high grade. First DET both day 5’s only 1 made it to 6 weeks, second DET - 1 day 5 & 1 day 6 - I had a chemical.

Any advice please?

It's probably best to get advice from the clinic about it and whether they have advised timeframes. I don't have personal experience with the situation but in general I would suggest making sure you are feeling properly back to normal before doing anything, as if it does not work you will always be wondering if you did it too early, as well as the possibility for your system not being quite right actually not making it work. CoV2 has been a peculiar infection in terms of how long it is affecting some people for afterwards, more so than 'flu and other respiratory viruses. Whatever you decide, I hope it works out for you and wish you much luck xx

Thanks. I will give them a ring on Monday and ask for their advice x

You wouldn’t be able to have your planning on 12th anyway, as you’d need to test negative on day 6 (which is the 12th) AND day 7 (13th) before you can end isolation. If you tested positive you would need to wait until day 10 so 16th before you were able to end isolation. Definitely call the clinic but if this puts you outside of this cycle then it might be better to skip a cycle this time. Alternatively it could be fine that the planning app is shifted forwards.

The planning appt is via teams so I don’t physically need to go to the clinic. It’s whether they’ll let me do the appt without my husband sitting next to me.

They told me in December when they made the planning appt that the earliest date for transfer would be April. I’m just concerned if we push back the planning appt the April dates would be all taken then we’ll be looking at May.

It’s all these delays making me think we shouldn’t go for it!!

Maybe I’m just being negative as the last 3 transfer haven’t ended well 🤦‍♀️

I was hoping by the time I’d hit 40 the ivf journey would be done, either with a baby or knowing we’d tried and it didn’t work out.

Yeah it’s really hard when everything takes such a lot longer. FYI though the embryos don’t get older and if it helps I was 40 by the time I got to use my 39 year old embryos (and they don’t age). It just takes one and hopefully this is the one! Your husband could log in from another room? I don’t think they’ll make you cancel it as it’s a planning appointment and online and you’ll be well clear of covid with antibodies by the time you have the transfer. I went for naturally modified when I did my successful FET I went for acupuncture and would have done some relaxing yoga if I’d have sorted it, I also changed from pregnacare to fertility bud as that has natural folic acid. Maybe it’s just the time you need to get yourself reset - rather than delay it again?

I had a modified natural on the last go. This time as it’s the last one the doctor did advise to go full medicated and they’ll also prescribe antibiotics.

We can still go ahead with the planning appt, the clinic will send us both a link to log in 😁

I’ve ordered some fertility Bud to give that a whirl, and I’m going to try for some reflexology 🤷‍♀️

Fingers crossed 🤞 x

Hi Franfran82, I agree that it is best to contact the clinic but I would also think that if your planning appointment is done remotely (all my specialist and planning appointments been over the phone anyway) you can go ahead with that. Because like you said it is only the planning appointment, you don’t start straight away anyway as it all depends on your cycle and the clinic availability. And if they say it won’t be before April, that would give you more than enough time to recover and get fit again before transfer. But I do agree you should feel ready for it if this is the last frostie. But that is exactly what you can discuss in your planning appointment right? And if you do it over teams, can your husband be there remotely logged into the meeting from a different room? That way you are both there?

I hope it works out for you!

Thanks. The annoying thing is I feel fine. I have a headache controlled with paracetamol and a bit of the sniffles. I’m confined to my room so doing you tube exercise vids to keep active !!

As I want a medicated I know based on my last medicated FET, From day 1 of my period it’ll be 7 weeks until my transfer.

So I guess the earliest I could start would be my period in feb anyway.

I’m just overthinking and worrying !!!

Ooh yes the overthinking and worrying is so real in IVF, there is always something to worry about and Covid definitely doesn’t help if it pushes things back 😥 but like you say it will be a while before transfer any way. I guess you are on a long protocol then for a FET? Mine been medicated but start on day 1 and transfer on day 19 so just under 3 weeks. And my clinics don’t do mandatory covid tests although of course they might if you had it recently. No experience with that… the whole covid thing is definitely an extra stress on what is already so stressful! I hope the headache clears soon though and hopefully you can have the planning appointment remotely so you can plan when the next one will be and that might give you control knowing when it will be. I know it helps me if I know when and what the next step is. Good luck!!!

Yes, I do like knowing what’s what, and when. At least I’ll have some dates on Wednesday 🤞x

Hi Fran, sorry to hear you have had covid, I hope you feel better now. I think this will depend on your clinic's policy. From what I have read on here they seem to differ a lot on this issue!

I tested positive for covid, just as I was starting my 3rd fresh round. My clinic said as they require a PCR test, they would need to delay treatment until I could do another PCR test (90 days after the positive). It was so frustrating, but also best to give your body a chance to recover and be fit and well. It has pushed my egg collection back by 6 weeks - I am just hoping PCR comes back negative when I have to do it, as I have read you can test positive on them for a long time 😐

Even if your clinic has the same policy this should mean you would still be fine to transfer in April I would have thought. It is great you have some frozen, those precious embies will be waiting for when you are ready.

Good luck 😊 x

Sorry to hear that. Like the waiting isn’t bad enough, to then have to wait longer.

It’s our last frostie and I’m just so concerned that the last 6 haven’t made it, this one being the last isn’t as good quality so it’s a massive risk (and cost) 🤦‍♀️X

Ah I'm sorry, I just saw it was one more you have frozen. But I have seen so many posts on here from ladies who have had success with their last embryo and it was a lesser quality. So try to keep the hope. Having said that I do know it is hard. I have had 3 failed transfers so far (the 2nd was a possible chemical pregnancy). Even though I am glad we are giving it another try, I am also really struggling with anxiety and terrified it won't work again.

Try not to put any unnecessary pressures on yourself, there is no reason that this transfer will not be the one that works for you.

Very best of luck and keep us updated how you get on xx

Your day 6 probably has a better chance - it should consist of more cells than a day 5 blast. If you are testing negative jump into treatments asap. The tests show positive even when you aren’t contagious anymore and the clinics don’t let you proceed.
