Can I have a drink before even start ivf treatment
Not sure of official advice but on a personal level. I was really careful on my 2nd and 3rd cycle. Did everything right. No alcohol in the month before, cut back on all the bad stuff and increased all the good stuff. Both failed. For my 4th (failed)and 5th cycle(success), I relaxed a lot. Thought I was sick of the restricting and had a bit of an attitude of what will be, will be. My 5th cycle, I even got so drunk the night before my first injection, I couldn't remember much. And I'm currently 6weeks along. I don't think it will make an odds on your outcome. I believe in looking after your well-being before/during treatment and if that means greasy food and a few glasses of wine, then so be it. Hopefully it would be your last blow-out for 9 months. Enjoy and good luck.
Hi there, I personally don’t believe that a drink or two will have a impact. Wishing you lots of luck 💕 xx
I gave up alcohol for three months at the beginning of the year alongside my husband who had poor sperm morphology. I decided in April, the month before my cycle to drink in moderation - including three glasses of red wine two nights before I started my down regulation. I felt a little buzzy given my tolerance was so low. It was important to me that I didn’t completely punish myself, though I stuck to 2-3 glasses of red wine on the couple of nights a week I did drink. My cycle was successful. Wishing you lots of luck x
I started my cycle on 2nd Jan, drank a bottle of wine over Christmas week and I'm currently sitting here with a month old baby in my arms. I wasn't a massive drinker before whilst ttc and I think that is the difference - moderation.
I personally decided to cut out all alcohol before our cycle, but I had more or less cut out alcohol since TTC, so it was not much to cut back on. Only because I had to give it my all or I would have always thought - what if. We also got funded one NHS cycle, so felt I owed it to do my best. It was not a big deal for me though, and I did not feel like I was punishing myself or anything, so it did not affect my well-being really. I have now been alcohol free for 2 years come this new year, and I don’t really miss it - so perhaps that is where I am different 😂😇 We had success on our first cycle. Not sure I will ever drink again however as I feel so good without it 😂 So I think it is also about finding a balance - but it is your decision and something you need to be happy with.
Wishing you all the best and hoping for every success for you! 🧡
Do what makes you feel best. I used to not drink at all but after years of trying I didn’t let IVF interfere with my plans. The one I had a drink with was the one that worked for us so it clearly doesn’t affect it xx
I had a couple of drinks in the lead up to all my cycles but not during for obvious reasons. Red wine is a good option lol, organic pinot noir will be full of antioxidants. I think the stress of trying to have a healthy lifestyle can also have the opposite effect during a time when you need to be relaxed and have positive thoughts. Xx
During my IVF consultation, the gynae mentioned drinking in moderation is fine.
Did everyone change there diets ?
Hi I’m not a doctor or anything. But the first 3 times i followed every rule in the book. Eat this, don’t eat that. Don’t drink this, drink that. ….. failed every time. The last time I ate whatever I wanted. No pineapple core, no pomegranate no walnuts. I had a cuppa in the morning I had delicious meals out, a packet of crisps a piece of cake a bit of ice cream if I wanted it. I just completely relaxed and i got my first ever positive. It did end up being a chemical but I don’t believe for one second it was because of something I ate. I drank alcohol right up to transfer. (I’m not an alcoholic 😂 just the odd wine with a meal) but it was the most stress free relaxed ivf attempt and I would do exactly the same next time xxx
