Does your clinic ask for breast scan and mammography prior treatment?

I’ve been told in Italy you can’t do IVF without doing these checks first. Is it the case here in the UK? I have never heard of it but I am NHS funded, I am wondering if in private clinics it’s a requirement?

I think it depends on your age to be honest. As far as I'm aware its only in older ladies that this can be requested but I see you're young so not sure if the rationale. It's not this case in the UK for younger patients.xx

HiI’m 39 and in uk but never been asked for either. They do ask for smear results plus all the usual bloods. All the best

I'm 41 and had two NHS cycles at 40 and never had a mammogram. Currently having treatment in prague where they recommended it for anyone over 40 however you won't be eligible for a test with the NHS unless your family has a history of early onset breast cancer, you'd need to get it some privately, same with a smear test. Ironic since we're all paying higher NI but denied access to tests fir fertility treatment.

Thank you for letting me know! Looks like in Italy and Spain they do but it’s not the same in other countries xxx

Hi Francy, in the UK they don't ask for it unless you are 50, but in Italy it is different as it is a law requirement. I think they will ask for a scan if you are under 40 and mammogram if you are over 40. X

Breast scans and mammography aren't a big thing in the UK compared to other European countries, especially Italy. In the UK, they will ask for an up-to-date smear test, proof of rubella vaccination, HIV, Hep B (even though as an Italian you will be vaccinated against it) and Hep C, and a vaginal swab.

I wonder why 🤷🏻‍♀️ but anyway I’ve done all the other tests you mentioned. Thank you xxx

Interesting. I had never heard of it but when I had my latest consultation with my new clinic (in the UK) starting my donor round they tried to mandate it - at their sister clinic - due to my age (44). I had to fight quite a lot not to have it .. it just felt like another upsell in a long line of cash generating procedures.

Don’t get me wrong I am all for making sure I am in optimal shape but I don’t have a history of breast cancer and have no lumps I am worried about so figured actually I will wait for my NHS scans in a few years x

In Italy they do it even under 40, different laws I guess. Maybe here it depends on age and how many cycles you had 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m not worried about it anyway xxx
