Questions to ask and changes to treatment plans

Hello, I have my follow up appointment tonight with our clinic to discuss why our second round of IVF didn't work. I've been writing a list of things to ask and wondered if you have any advice on the type of questions to ask following a failed round of IVF? I found my follow up appt after our first failed attempt pretty useless and left with no real answers or conclusions as to why it didn't work. The only thing they said was they would put my dosage up to the max 450 for the following round.

Is there anything you found out along your journey that you thought was super helpful advice? Anything you changed or added to your treatment that then resulted in a BFP?

I'd really appreciate your views and advice as I don't want to waste the short time I have with my consultant.

Thanks everyone 😘 Xx

Don't know if you've seen my post, but I have had a much better round 2nd time. Our consultant said at our review poor quality embryos were probably egg quality but could be sperm related. Even though SA normal, there could be an issue at dna level. There is an expensive test for this, but treatment is icsi and DH going on proxceed. We were already having icsi, so DH just went on the proxceed instead of having the expensive test! We have no way of knowing if it's the proxceed made the difference, but this cycle has produced good embryos. Maybe worth asking about this? Best wishes to you. I know how hard it is to pick yourself up from failed cycles xx

Hi Hannah143. With regards to what questions to ask, I do have a list I can send you if you want. It is too long to add here, but if you email me in confidence at dianearnold@infertilitynetworkuk.com I will send it to you – and good luck!” Diane

I found out after 2 ivfs and a MIP test that I have immune issues and high levels of nk killers cells, which basically attack any embryos as they think they are toxins. I was put on steroids, prednisolone, 5mg X 2, for three months prior to my last ivf and I'll be on them until 12 weeks. I'm also doing Intralipid infusions before transfer, during the 2ww and I've one more tomorrow, also meant to help prevent m/c. Very best of luck this evening, X

How did you get on?, I hope it was help ful for you, X

I was really surprised and impressed with my time with our consultant. Compared to our first one it was night and day. We went through every stage in detail and talked about what we could do to help each part of the process. We are going to add these things to our third attempt:

An endometrial scratch

Starting Gonal F day 1 to give my smaller ones a chance to get big enough

We are still debating whether it's worth upping from 300 to 450 Gonal f, there are pros and cons

Adding a double trigger shot

Hepren injections post transfer to dissolve any blood clots which may/may not be there preventing blood supply to the embryo.

I think all the above is worth a shot, gotta try again and hope that I have a decent crop of eggs in the month we choose to go for it. Xx

Hi hannah143. "I'm on way " to start my second IVF soon . This time different doctor different clinic ...all looking good and making me feel more positive this time. New clinic repeat most blood test and check my hubby too which is so OK ..us before. My previous clinic after my BPN suggest that if we go thru second IVF they gonna increase dose to 220 to collect more eggs (11 eggs on 150 before), then they can use endo scrach , embryo glue and they can put two back . In that new clinic we want to ask for all that what first previous clinic recommend. But I'm gonna ask them for this hepren injection u mention 😃 Any little help to get my baby sticks ☺️☺️ Thank u

Hi, that all sounds really positive & uplifting. I hope it has made you feel better and given you some confidence. Very best of luck in the future, X.

Hey Molly, it's helped refocus my mind and has given me hope for our next attempt. Thank you, we are going to have our next round in March/April. How are you? Xx

That sounds great, I'm delighted for you plus it gives you a date to aim for/ work towards which is positive. I'm good thank you, have my first (7 week) scan on the 23rd where they look for a sac & heartbeat to determine if the pregnancy is viable. Having been here before & m/c I'm trying to relax, concentrate on work & not think too much. In reality I'm terrified as this is it. Thanks for asking. I'd highly recommend acupuncture if you're interested & I'd start straight away, X.
