Trigger done… what to expect next?

Hi!

This is my first round and after 6 weeks I’ve finally done my trigger injection. Egg collection is Thursday morning so just wondered if there’s anything I need to know ie is it painful? Is there anything I should/shouldn’t do in preparation? Will I be able to be ‘normal’ on the day? I’m off work due to isolating anyone so won’t be a strenuous day

Anxious but hopeful- this seems to be my motto lately through this journey x

Hi lovely! I’ve always had sedation for egg collection so you don’t feel a thing. As long as you’ve not been overstimulated you should be fine after too. Probably a bit of bloating and probably a bit of blood but just drink lots of water and you’ll be fine. It usually knocks me out for the day, I tend to curl up, watch films and nap, so I wouldn’t expect it to be a “normal” day xx

Thanks for coming back to me, reassured me a bit as I was worried I’d be in agony. I’ll make sure I just relax tomorrow afterwards then xx

Thank you :) x

You are unlikely to be in pain unless they have problems, and usually with a first collection there is no pain, but they will give you pain killers in recovery if you are uncomfortable. As Millbanks says its just a case of lie back, keep calm and enjoy a little sleep! The hard work is done now, let the consultants do something for a change! Haha! I normally get my trackies on and spend the day on the sofa post EC, have some lucozade or similar to drink and stay hydrated with water. You should be fine within 24 hours. Good luck! x

Thank you! You’re right, after being poked and prodded and 49 needles later we’re finally at this point. Going to enjoy my lazy day tomorrow then! :) x

Sedation worked really well for me too - I initially felt a little, but no real pain and they just gave me more - I felt nothing after that! And had the best nap afterwards in recovery! Was given a hot drink and sandwich, but not sure if all clinics provide this.

I just rested around the house too as we were isolating for transfer, Netflix day 🥰 Keep well hydrated. I felt bloated and a little sore the day after, but did not even need paracetamol, so all good.

Wishing you all the best!! 🥰🤞

Glad it’s working for people as I’m always worried about the pain- I’m usually in pain anyway during scans due to my endometriosis.

I’ve got a new series at hand so sounds like a good day to me! 😊 thank you xx
