I’ve got my FET TWW coming up at the end of September, it’s our last shot with my own eggs. I’m anxious now before it’s even started and am completely distracted from work.
My work is quite mentally challenging and takes a lot of concentration which right now I’m struggling with.
Do you think I should take the full TWW off work? I have the option to go away for some of that time, but not sure if I should. What do those of you do who have been through it before? X

We’re going into our 4th round soon and I’ve never taken enough of the TWW off before I don’t think, only the day before testing - day after. I plan this time to have the majority of that TWW off to relax!
I'm also going into my 4th round by end of september 🤗 and taking most of the time off to relax, eat healthy, meditate and watch some of my favorite shows. Best fo luck! 🤞🍀
I have gone through 3 x 2ww so far. 1st I only took transfer day off, 2nd I was signed off work sick for 2 weeks, 3rd I took the day of transfer and about 3 days off afterwards. I think I will go with the 3rd option on the next one, it seems like the right balance for me. 2 weeks off actually gave me way too much time to overthink! Most important thing is to do what feels right for you, but I would suggest you take at least a few days off after transfer.
Do what feels right for you. If you think you could look back and regret working, take the time off.
I took the full 2 weeks off for my first transfer and it failed. My second transfer I took the first week off and it failed as well. My third I just kept on working because work was so crazy busy I couldn’t afford the time off. I was forced to focus on work because of my position, and I just got a BFP!
I really don’t think it matters but I am glad I took the time off for the first transfer. I was so anxious the whole time and was not at all prepared for the mental torture the TWW brings!
Thanks for your replies everyone. I’m not worried about the stress of work as much as my inability to concentrate on it. I’ve booked the first week off work so I can try to relax and hope the little embryo sticks. I’d pick injections every day over the mental torture of the TWW! Fingers crossed this time. X
Do whatever works for you. I've usually worked as I have a desk job and have also been working from home. But one time I had the final week off. Personally, I like to keep my mind busy because otherwise I dwell on things, but others like to take that time to relax. Either way, it doesn't affect the outcome unless the kind of work you do could pose a risk. If you have concerns, have a chat with your doctor/ nurse.
I would recommend taking it off if you can. I've just had my fourth 2ww in the last 2 years and it gets worse every time. Normally I say that I would rather "keep busy" but I've been terrible - missed a meeting, hung up accidently during a conference call, messed up a journal for the ledger... spent way too much time on Google! I would recommend taking it easy, it's bad enough being in a 2ww never mind feeling incompetent at work as well....!! Xx
If you can I would recommend . Take the stress off you and allow you to relax and enjoy being pupo 😊
Hi Zeebee14 I think it’s totally a personal choice and what you feel comfortable with and it’s unlikely to affect the outcome either way. I’ve had 3 transfers, first transfer I was still working however it was at the beginning of the pandemic and I was wfh. I did take a weeks leave I think. Second and third transfer I had left my job and I was self employed. I did find the 2ww harder the third time around but I think that was just because it was my third transfer and it just gets harder each time. Some people like the routine and distraction that work brings. Just do what you feel comfortable and happy with. Getting away for a change of scene does sound a good idea though! Best of luck and really hope you have a positive outcome xx
I never planned to have any time off for my TWW but I had to self isolate due to being in contact with someone with covid so I had a week and a half off which has just resulted in a BFP
Hi! I am doing my 4th fresh cycle. And my mind is battling the same thoughts. I worry a lot about work, they don't really care. I took a few days unpaid because the clinic recommended to isolate before the egg collection until after de transfer. I should have the egg collection sometime next week and I don't know what to do with work. Before I went back to work after a few days after the transfer. In my mind I think it is better for me to stay at home but at the same time I keep thinking how will be better. Good luck to you and do what you feel more comfortable with! xxx
Yes I took off the two week wait. And I would recommend it especially since it's a very sensitive time and your last shot with your own eggs. I would do everything possible to ensure very low stress during that time that is already so stressful. It is true that physically you do not have to take off but it will be a load off your mind if you just stayed home and relax watch your favorite shows, eat your favorite food, go for walks in the park just really enjoyable things. That's just my take on it. This last round was the first time I took off the two week wait and I have been through three IVF tries. This last time although I use donor eggs I did not need the stress of being at work. I stayed home and I tried to think positive thoughts and I did the things that make me happy. I wish you the best of luck and hope that this works out for you my fingers are crossed.
I’ve had two 2ww. One I had the full 2 weeks off. The other I worked. It took my mind off things, but it does give you something to blame. Both BFN for me. I think next time I’ll take a few more days off the chill, but not all of it again. I found I over thought it. Good luck x
Wishing you the best of luck 🤞, I have just had my transfer today😁💕💕 and have the next few days off , heading back to work Tuesday will be happy to have my mind and body occupied. 🥰🥰
Hi there. I took the 2WW off on our last transfer, I work in the NHS as a midwife, my manager was very supportive but our hospital also had a policy allowing 10 days off for ivf. I would have seen GP to sign off instead of not. My head was all over the place & it allows me to just chill & potter at home, be relaxed & slow. It also meant I got to eat lunch every day, & drink the recommended 3l of water/sleep properly. No way this would happen at work. I had a lot of bleeding in my 2WW & it meant I could monitor that properly & had the time to come to terms with what it could mean whereas at work I would have just become more anxious. This was the one transfer that worked for us I’m now 24 weeks. Good luck Hun. You won’t regret taking the time off, but if it doesn’t work & you don’t will you feel you did everything you could have to help it?
I hope things go your way. If work aren’t supportive ask your go for a quick phone consult to sign you off. Xx
Hi Zeebee, I'm currently about to start my second 2ww, transfer is tomorrow. My 1st failed and I was off work sick, I'm off for this one too, the field I work in is very close to home and I find it abit much to deal with, as an anxious person I find it better for me not having to worry about work. It's what you feel is best for you xx
