lubion needle size

Hey,

Quick question, I have been given 25G 25mm needles to use for the lubion injections, in the drug info sheet it says should use 27G 13mm needles. I know the 25G is smaller than the PIO needles 😬 but these still feel too big and I can't gauge how far to stick them in. What size did your clinic give you? Am I just (probably) being a complete wimp? 😆

thanks 😘🧡

I use the small yellow needles for lubion. They go all the way in 👍🏼🥰

I used 30G needles as well - for a 1/2 inch needle it goes all the way in. Lubion hurts to inject so you will be thankful for the smaller needles over time! You can buy 27 or 30G needles online (get BD brand if you can but I used Accucan as I couldn't get BD - they are also reputable). xx

Thank you, I had a search online but I think I'm going to see if my GP will provide them as I think that will be quickest, have given myself some impressive bruises 🤦‍♀️

I’ve always been given 30G 13mm needle for lubion (yellow ones!) plus a 21G 40mm to draw it from the vial (green ones!). You can buy them online, I had to do that once as got some lubion from a pharmacy that didn’t supply needles.

If you’ve ever down regged and have leftover insulin size needles, they are basically the same size xx

Thank you Kibo, they gave me the green ones as well as these big bad boy orange ones, the nurse was away for ages looking for some and I think she just grabbed whatever she could find.....

This was my order. I got the smallest, thinnest yellow needles which go all the way in and I sometimes I don't even feel them. Remember to warm up the lubion before injecting and to press down on the injection site for a minute afterwards (like you would after a blood withdrawal). Good luck! X

I had the huge green tipped needles to withdraw from the vial (lubion is thick so that’s why they give you an insane needle to get it out), then I used a grey tipped needles to inject. Lubion can cause bruising so alternate the side and area and avoid your waist band. Good luck!

Thanks Becs, I seem to be having worse luck than with the stims when it comes to bruises!

I had the yellow needles for lubion from the clinic, but then had to order more from medisave and they had run out of the yellow needles so I ended up with the orange ones! Nurse said the orange ones were fine to use. It was quicker to administer the meds as the needle was slightly thicker but I did find it more painful, so I managed to find some of the yellow needles from another supplier and stuck with those. For either colour the needle goes in the whole way. I used arnica cream afterwards to try and help with the bruising/swelling and made sure I swapped sides of my belly button each day. I was on lubion for about 7 weeks and it did get easier - although I’m glad I’ve stopped now! Was worth it to get to where I am today though. Good luck! Xx

Thanks Tilly, congrats on your pregnancy, is that you off the meds now altogether now? Good thinking about the arnica 👍 xx

Thank you! Yep! Clinic weaned me off all the progesterone at 12 weeks - I was really anxious about it as I almost felt the meds were sustaining the pregnancy. But I spoke to some ladies on here and they all reassured me the placenta would be doing it’s job by 12 weeks and possibly as early as 8 weeks. I was also lucky to get another reassurance scan at the hospital after stopping the meds as my anxiety was so high. Good luck with your cycle xx

27G would just be a little bit finer than the 25G but not a huge difference in it. With a 13mm you would stick it all the way in, so with a 25mm go about half way to two thirds to get the same depth.

Alternatively if you’re not happy using the longer ones I’ve got tons of 30G 13mm left over from our ivf cycle that I was going to take into work to dispose of this week. You can have them if you would like, just DM me and I can post them to you x
