PGT with Care fertility

Has anyone did PGT with Care fertility ? I need some advice please. We got 11 embryos and I want to test them as I had 3 failed transfers. Is this worth it? Is it expensive ? Will it damage the embryos ? Will it definitely increase my chances ?

I haven’t gone through it yet - and not with Care fertility, but I’m hoping it’s an option for me. If you go to the Lister Fertility Centre site and click on treatments and then PGT, there is a really good 12 min video that explains PGT. It’s from an embryologists point of view so might be a bit more positive than perhaps a consultant would be but worth listening to. Good luck ✨ 💕

I had PGT at Care fertility. I had 5 miscarriages (conceived naturally) so for me it was the main reason I did IVF so at least I knew that we stood a better chance with chromosomally normal embryos. Out of 9 tested we had 4 with additional or deleted chromosomes. It was expensive due to the number of embryos (around 4k). My first FET failed but we did further testing on me (TH1:TH2) and discovered I needed immune protocol then 2nd FET worked and I'm 23 weeks pregnant. It's a really individual decision. If I hadn't had the miscarriages then I don't think I would have done PGT but for me I just felt less scared knowing that what I was transferring had a lower chance of miscarriage. Congratulations on 11 embryos that's an amazing first step!

I did PGT elsewhere as I’m in the US. I’m older and it took me several (as I would only get one to four eggs per retrieval ) several rounds actually to get a chromosomely good embryo even though almost all of mine made it to say 5 looking fine they were actually not after testing. Then we got one that tested good, was the only one did a FET with and it worked. Finger crossed 22 weeks. Worth the money.

Hi there. I had three non PGT rounds (NHS) followed by another 3 PGS rounds. Currently pregnant. Our first round of PGT was back when care did a flat rate package (8 biopsies over 12 month period)… 2nd cycle yielded nothing to biopsy… by our 3rd cycle of PGT they changed the costings so you paid a set up fee (I think this was around £1500 ish) then depending how many embryos you got they charged per embryo biopsy… this was around £350 per biopsied embryo but I’m not 100%.

For us we felt it was worthwhile as most previous round we got about 5 embryos. We never got a positive so the emotional cost as well as the financial cost for each FET took its toll and a lot of time when my age was late thirties. I didn’t have any embryos damaged by the process nor any issues thawing them. We had 4 normal embryos from 6 biopsied on our 6th round and the first one transferred has worked for us.

Wishing you all the best in your decision xx

Hi Emineasca

I have just completed my first round with CARE which included ICSI and PGT. I was eligible for PGT on NHS as I have a genetics disorder. We harvested 4 embryos one of which was affected by my genetics condition. I am now 9 weeks pregnant with one of the ‘normal’ embryos. Had I not tested there was the obvious chance that the chromosonally abnormal embryo would have been transferred and either ended in miscarriage or not been viable with life late on… I would advocate PGT to anyone who does not have time on their side, has funding / finances available and may wish to avoid the physical and emotional side of potential miscarriages by transferring embryos which may not be viable.

There are others that feel that PGT is wrong and that there is the potential that embryos tested by PGT may be viable which I respect. For me, I would not have had it any other way as I had other risk factors involved too (PCOS / age).

I agree with the poster above - the charges are £1500 plus £350 for each embryo after a certain amount has been tested. That was the feed last year when I looked before we secured NHS funding.

The lab CARE use is Cooper Genomics who are world renowned.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do! You retrieved a huge amount of potential babies in your EC!! Wow! Hope all works out for you 🙏🏼

Thank you for this detailed response. Can you please clarify how many did they test for the original fee of £1500? And then you paid for £350 for each embryo ? So does this mean you had another collection ? Is £1500 for the entire batch ? Sorry I am so new to This. Thanx so much

Hi Emineasca

Sorry for the delay. My cycle was NHS funded in the end but I had been looking into the private option as I was getting desperate to move forward. I can go through my emails to check but it’s about a year ago since I was looking into it so maybe best to call the clinics and ask what they offer these days. Good luck to you 🙏🏼

Hi there. My treatment was via a consultant who works independently, but used CARE for the retrieval’s, transfers and particularly the PGT-A because of the good reputation they have with doing genetic testing etc. There’s the cost of the IVF itself, embryo storage (£300 per year), HFEA fee and anything extra such as ICSI, AOA and what not. Looking at the price lists I have from CARE Manchester it was £1185 for the PGTA set up fee plus another £305 per embryo biopsied. I think there was also a fee of £475 for extended culture (taking them to day 5 for biopsy). The do offer something called CARE maps for around £800 which we didn’t bother with - it’s a statistic program that uses time lapse to monitor the development of the embryos to select the ones with the ‘best chances’ to put back first… we didn’t bother since testing ours genetically was going to be the main dictator or which embryos would be transferred. Hope this helps. Oh also. One of our embryos came back as a ‘no result’ which can happen sometimes. We had it re-biopsied (it was normal) and this was free of charge but carries a small risk since you are thawing it and freezing it again. Hope this helps xx

I have! Had 2 failed transfers and then had the other embryos PGTa tested as they suggested that it is normally chromosomal issues that causes problems getting pregnant / miscarriages. 5/6 came back normal (and one low level mosaic. I was 34) and no problems with thawing / refreezing. However I have since put 3 of the 'normal' embryos back and still not managed to get pregnant so it appears that it wasn't a chromosomal issue for me. It is likely an implantation issue.

So for me it wasn't worth it and I wouldn't do it again.

I am now having other tests (Era and hysteroscopy, already had lots of blood tests and all fine).

However I do still think it might be worth it depending on your situation. (if you are older and have lots of embryos or have had multiple miscarriages and/or know you've had some chromosomal issues before!)

Sam as the others suggested cost was 1500 plus 300 ish per embryo. For 6 embryos it was just under £3000.

I've heard of others lose one in the process so do be aware that can happen. But didn't happen to me!

We are with Care Chester and had PGTA in Jan. It was £1600 for the cycle and £300 per embryo. We tested four and got one that was fit for transfer. We have gone on to have the trio biopsy to give that one we have the absolute best shot so still waiting on transfer. Xx

This is a very personal decision. I decided against it as I was genetically tested myself, had a genetically tested young donor and spent £13k on a single IVF round. I ran out of money and time as I was moving abroad shortly after the round. But now I'm 11 weeks pregnant and completely SH*TTING myself waiting for the results of a prenatal genetic test I did last week (results take 2 weeks). At 38 I'm high risk for all the trisomy ones and I have clear ideas about what to do in the event of a positive results. If I could go back in time, I'd pay it. The idea of having to abort a baby at this stage after a really difficult first trimester absolutely kills me. But I'm a massive worrier and I've been anxious throughout this pregnancy so maybe it's just me..
