Single or double transfer?

Hey šŸ‘‹

Does anyone know the stats on how many people end up with twins after a double transfer? Iā€™ve looked online and canā€™t find much info.

Iā€™m considering a double FET but more to increase chance of one sticking .. not to achieve two as I have a rare womb abnormality which would make carrying twins problematic.

Iā€™d just like to know what the stats are for two actually sticking?

Thanks x

I was told it would increase the chance of pregnancy by 8% and increase the chance of twins by 50%. We went for a double transfer in the end but it was our 4th transfer x

I heard the same as Lisa, and I chose a double transfer for our third and fourth transfer to increase the odds of one sticking but was also prepared for twins should that occur. With my fourth transfer, both stuck and Iā€™m now 7w5d with twins. Xx

Just be aware I know just as many women who had triplets from a double transfer as I do twins - given your medical history i wouldnā€™t risk a double? I put 2 in and had twins - I found pregnancy brutal and was fit and healthy before but still on bed rest from 18 weeks and twins arrived at 34 weeks in a threat to life situation for all 3 of us x

Oh thatā€™s really interesting about triplets! Wouldnā€™t have even known that was quite likely.

Thanks for sharing, this is helpful. Itā€™s hard for me as the NHS havenā€™t really been able to tell me much about how severe my condition is and Iā€™ve had conflicting information on it. Sorry to hear it was so tough for you, hope all is ok now xxx

Like ivfgotadream, I also transferred two and was prepared for twins. My babies are angels but I was healthy before pregnancy but had a difficult pregnancy - fainting from 20 weeks then emergency section due to pre eclampsia. If you know pregnancy is going to be dangerous, I wouldn't risk it.

Thanks for the reply. Wow that sounds really tough! Hope all is ok for you all now.

The strange thing is, my consultant (who I really trust) has given me the option which is what Iā€™m struggling with as I thought a double for me would be a no no .. I am waiting to speak to him to discuss properly.

Thanks so much for replying xx

Just for the other side of the coin Iā€™ll give you my perspective. I played the odds too. I had a double transfer and 2 heartbeats at Week 7. Sadly I lost one by Week 10. Went on to have a healthy pregnancy with the remaining embryo who is a 12 week old bubba now. I think about that second heartbeat every day.

This is also some of my logic. My last transfer worked but I lost the baby after the heartbeat too. I have had 2 MCs now and i canā€™t bear the thought of losing another and being left with nothing again. So sorry that happened to you as well.

What have you decided? It is a difficult decisition

Hey, thanks for asking. Iā€™ve decided on one after a long chat with the embryologist. Last time I had a positive test but had a missed miscarriage so she said that they are hopeful that I wouldnā€™t need to transfer two and that the risks far outweighed the benefits. So going with one, next Tuesday hopefully! X
