Non of my eggs got fertilized

I started my ivf process with Menapur and Fyremadel. My doctor was able to retrieve 14 eggs but she called the next day and said non of the eggs got fertilized. She will change my medication next time. I have PCOS and therefore i got through ivf. What can be done differently to have mature eggs?

I can't give advice on that precise issue but just wanted to say that sucks so take some time to get over the initial shock. Is it definitely an egg issue though as couldn't it be an issue with the sperm?

Hey so sorry you experienced this, I know exactly how you feel as this also happened on my first round and i was so upset. Did they tell you why they thought this has happened, what percentage of your eggs were mature? Our issue was put down to compatibility of the sperm and the eggs we switched to icsi on our second round and also had double trigger shot to help mature eggs and added in ubiquional and vitamin d to our supplements. We went from zero to 100 percent fertilisation so there are definately tweaks they can make which can improve things next time round. Please feel free to message me if you want to ask any questions. Sending you bid hugs xxx

Hi lovely,

I’m so, so sorry to hear that this has happened. IVF is hard enough without getting a punch in the gut like this. 💔

Myo-inositol helps with egg quality for women with PCOS, so I would definitely start taking that if you’re not already. Inofolic Alpha is a good brand. Impryl and cod liver oil can also help improve egg quality and bring down inflammation associated with PCOS, so I would start those as well.

As kookypie mentioned, don’t forgot to consider that the sperm might be an issue as well. If a lot of your eggs were mature, the fertilization issue could be down to problems with the sperm.

Best of luck xx

My heart goes out to you! I know how you're feeling. Had an IVF treatment in April, got 6 eggs, 3 fertilised and none make it to day 5. All were fertilised with ICSI. I spoke at the clinic and they'll change my treatment. I hope I can start in september because my 2nd period after treatment hasn't arrived yet so if you see a delay on your 2nd period call the doctor. I'm taking some meds to start it and the clinic is on holiday in July and in August we go on vacation, you need some relaxation. You need to do something everyday so you won't become obsessed with the hole situation. The treatment we take is playing with our minds very easily and depression can take you at any moment. Please cry for a few days and then get up go on with your life. Your baby will come eventually but it needs time and a healthy mommy.

I had a similar experience first time - out of 12 eggs only one fertilised but it really wasnt a good quality embryo and I ended up having a 3 day transfer.I did ICSI the next round and got 100% fertilisation and got 10 embryos to day 5.

Good luck

So sorry to hear you’re going through this.We had a similar experience on our first round. 9 mature eggs and none fertilised either ICSI. We were told for us it was a sperm issue and about 80% odds of the same thing happening next time.

Our second cycle 3 out of 8 fertilised and 2 made it to day 5 but only 1 suitable quality, resulted in pregnancy but then MMC.

Just had our 3rd cycle and changed to donor sperm this time. Only 3 out of 5 fertilised and 1 day 5 blastocyst but poor grade at 1BB. That was a very stubborn 1BB and decided to stick around and I’m currently 8 weeks pregnant. Had a couple of scans already and growth is good with a strong heartbeat.

It can happen, even after such a devastating experience.

I’ve heard Coenzyme q10 can help with egg quality but never had an issue with this so don’t know if me taking it on this round will have made any difference to the embryo quality at all x

I am so sorry you must be beside yourself after all your efforts. Just to say I had one round like this where I had very poor fertilisation and it was a sperm issue not an egg issue, so don't necessarily blame yourself. Definitely book a follow up with the consultant and they will have the notes from the embryologists and will be able to talk through with you what happened and how to avoid it happening again x

So sorry to hear this. It is the worst news we can hear. I had four rounds of ivf and only in one round i had 1 mature egg. Bare in mind I tried 3 different clinics. We tried different variations of meds but nothing changed. I was onto my 4th clinic when i fell pregnant naturally.

Speak with the embroylogist. The ones i spoke to said i had an egg quality issue. Maybe they can recommend supplements on your next round.

Hi Sara1370

This exact same thing happened to me and my husband on our first IVF attempt.

After this we switched to ICSI where all eggs fertilised and I went onto have 3 embryos ready for transfer at day 5. I had one transferred and the other two popped in the freezer.

I am currently 19 weeks pregnant and hopefully all continues well 🤞🏼 But I would really consider ICSI.

Wishing you the best of luck with your future journey xx
