Hello, I’m new here and have been reading posts which really helped to hear about others in my situation. I’m 34 in April and had some fertility tests done last week as I’m slightly older than I wanted to be to have a baby and just wanted peace of mind everything was ok. Naively I thought everything would come back fine however the dr told me that I have very low egg reserve and low AMH for somebody my age and that it could take me a very very long time to try and get pregnant. He also said my chances of succeeding at ivf would be lower too due to this. I’m waiting on the report from my tests to be emailed over to me as I can’t remember all the figures and numbers he gave me over the phone, I feel like the conversation was just a blur and I was in shock. I can’t remember if he said that the egg quality may be low too due to this. I only had my implant removed in December and now I’m absolutely devastated as we were so excited to try and start a family and now I feel like all my hopes are just shattered. The dr advised me to keep trying for 6 months which was a little confusing as he had just told me I will struggle to conceive naturally but that they could help me sooner than that if I wanted, again a bit confusing as he had just told me I will struggle with ifv too. I just wondered if anybody here has any advise or experience of how they conceived naturally or through ivf in the same situation and what are the best vitamins/supplements advised to take to help if any? I’m currently just taking folic acid. Would be great to hear some of your stories just to see if there is some hope!

Hi there and Welcome 🙂

So sorry you're going through this, i can completely relate as i too was told i had low AMH for my age, around 3 years ago - it was definitely a shock getting the news and of course i thought the worst. I got retested last Oct and unsurprisingly it had dropped even lower, it was 1.0 so pretty low! I was 34 at the time.

But remember with low AMH, yes it may take a bit longer to fall pregnant but it's absolutely possible. I am living proof! Albeit with the help of IVF, but still it happened and i'm now just over 9 weeks pregnant. Only 3 eggs retrieved, 2 fertilised and both put back in on day 3. It's really not so much about quantity over quality. That's what kept me going during this challenging journey.

There are lots of things you can do to improve quality. I took loads of supplements in the lead up to my cycles which were recommended to help with both quality and count. Please free to DM me and i will happily share a list with you.

I know it can feel daunting, but hang on in there - it most definitely is possible 💫

Thank you so much for replying, I’ve been in two minds to write it all down and post it since I had my results but I’m glad I have as like you say you just think the worst to start with and feel a bit written off to think your body isn’t naturally doing what it should be.

Thank you for your hope and big congratulations to you both 👏🏻 I’m so pleased to hear all your efforts have paid off you really deserve it ☺️ keeping everything crossed for you for a smooth pregnancy. I wasn’t feeling too positive about ivf before but now I do and hopefully one day I can be where you are now. And I shall message you regarding supplements I really appreciate it thank you!

Thank you. Very excited, but also terrified as it's still very early days.IVF can seem like an overwhelming option but it's also exciting, as you feel you're getting closer to a baby!

Hey, I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I wanted to give you some hope with my story. I was 32 when I was diagnosed with low amh and egg reserve. My dr told me to take supplements for 3 months before trying for ivf. Vitamin d e high dose of folic acid and DHEA supplements (I’m adamant that these helped improve egg quality) my first medicated try my eggs didn’t get to the correct growth so I had to increase my medication. I then managed to get 4 eggs, 1 died and 3 survived to 5 day blastocyst. I had the best egg transferred which resulted in my now 3 year old daughter. I froze the last two, I went back to have a FET last year. The first egg didn’t work but my very last egg did and I’m now 23 weeks pregnant with my little boy. I just wanted to say that it only takes one egg, no matter how many you retrieve. I had one round of IVF with 3 eggs and have 2 beautiful babies. Sending you lots of love and hugs xx

How beautiful! I have a son who is nearly 18 months hoping to use one of the frozen embryos from his cycle. Do you remember the grades of your son and daughter? And do you mind me asking how old you were when your eggs were collected. I was 35 at the time so hoping i have the incredible luck you had xx

Hey! I think my daughter was a 6AA and my son the same but AB. The blasto that didn’t take was also the same grade as my son so it really I believe is luck. I was 32 when I had my eggs collected and had pretty bad amh due to a history of very early menopause in my family xx

Hi Pittuck23. I’ve heard lots of things about DHEA but can’t seem to find where you can get hold of this in the UK. Can I ask where you got it from? Thanks x

Hi I think everyone circumstances are different I have 2 kids from prev marriage and my fiancé has none we started ttc in 2017 I was 37 he was 31, knowing fertility decreases with age thought now or never. We did conceive 3 times but mc each time at 12w saw mc and fertility clinic nothing wrong but my amh is low 3.4 and ivf would be with a donor & tbh couldn’t afford ivf & my fiancé didn’t want to persuade ivf anyways. So went away no treatment I felt end of road a nearly year pass we had a chemical in Dec 19 then another in March/April20 that was me done mentally so gave up ttc like tracking just kept off the pill carried on with our lives I had turned 40 just though my eggs are too weak I had already did the supplements route dhea ubiquinol pqq everything I read that could increase quality. Then sept pregnant again couldn’t believe it this would definitely be our last chance, now we’re 22w all going great so far. I can’t offer any advice just amh doesn’t mean impossible and hopefully you can achieve a healthy pregnancy one way or another x

Hi,I have low AMH too, similar to your result. The doctor told me to take DHEA 75 mg and CQ10 400 mg a plus a pre pregnant multi vitamins per day!!. for at least 3 months, before trying IVF.

Also I would recommend you to have a look at something called " natural or modified IVF", it is different approach as it is about quality and not quantity. My friend got pregnant that way after her doctor told her she had way too low egg reserve to do it with her owns. Also apparently is cheaper.

I am in the middle of investigations. Not my own experience But be positive, it is possible!

Hi everyone, thank you so much for all your positive messages and encouragement, it’s been really helpful to read all your replies and I really appreciate everyone taking the time to respond 😊 I know it’s going to be difficult but I think I definitely need to try and be a bit more positive about it.

I’m still waiting for my letter from the clinic that did my tests to find out my exact levels and how low they are and then I will get some advise from my doctors just to see where I stand with regards to help from the nhs before going private. I read that you have to have been trying to conceive for 2 years to be able to be considered for IVF with the nhs unless you have been told you will struggle to conceive naturally so I’m hoping that as I’ve had these fertility’s tests privately done that I qualify for this?

Hi I wouldn’t worry too much about AMH and natural conception, it’s more of a problem if you end up doing IVF as you might not make as many eggs but age is the most important factor.

I had an AMH of 5.6 at 31 and was at the start of my journey and worried sick. Im now pregnant naturally with my third baby at 36. (This is my 7th pregnancy though as I have a history of recurrent miscarriage).

There has been a recent study suggesting time to conception is the same for low AMH vs normal AMH so hopefully it will happen for you naturally. Good luck xxx

Hello!

I was also told a few years ago that I had a low AMH, so after trying naturally for a couple of years we opted for ivf, on my first round I was lucky enough to get 6eggs, 2 of which I was able to freeze, I had one failed transfer, but my fet was successful and I have a beautiful little 16 month old boy.

At some point in November I decided to get my AMH tested again and learned that the number was even lower (around 2pmol/l). I knew this was not something my fertility clinic would work with in the future and I’d have to consider other options. I’d kind of gotten used to the idea of only having one child. But here I am 7 weeks pregnant and still in disbelief.

Hiya, welcome to the forum, lots of lovely people on here who all understand what you’re going through. I was told I had low AMH and egg reserve for my age when we went through testing (8 at the age of 29) We had one round of IVF, five embryos made it to day 5, we transferred two but as the quality of all were not great we had nothing to freeze, unfortunately it was a failed round for us and I was told it failed as I had poor egg quality. However, fast forward one month and I fell pregnant naturally! Was a huge shock but the best surprise ever. Out little boy is now 4 months - so never give up trying! We took some new supplements the month I fell pregnant, will private message you as I can’t name on here... I can’t promise that is what did it but maybe worth a try x
