No eggs fertilized

Sadly we got the call this morning that following our egg collection yesterday ( in which they got 7 eggs) none have fertilized.

We have a call scheduled with the doctor next week.

We just want to know why its happened which is probably the hardest question to answer. Has this happened to anyone else?

Hi lovely, so sorry to hear this - it's such difficult news to process. I hope the doctors can give you some idea as to why. Were you both on any supplements etc before? It could be to do with egg / sperm quality which can both be improved for your next cycle. If this is your first cycle, it's often seen as a test run to make sure they can put you on the best protocol etc for the best results, it's not easy though xx

Hello!

We wernt actually, but will defo be looking in to anything and everything we can do now.

This was our first cycle. I had prepared myself for it to not be successful, but never thought we wouldnt make it to transfer. Maybe that was a bit nieve of me.

Thank you so much for your message xxx

Not at all - I think it's one of the hardest things throughout fertility journeys - we always hope for the best, but you just never know what is going to happen. But the good news is that every cycle is different, just because you didn't get to transfer this time, doesn't mean you won't next time. There's tonnes of things you can take to help with egg quality / sperm quality - Ubiquinol, NAC, Omega, Green Boost powders, antioxidants etc. Have a chat with your doctor and see what they say, but lots of people on here will be able to advise you how best to support the clinical side of things. xx

Perfect thank you! I will do a lot of reading and have a list of questions ready for next week!

It just all feels so unfair but trying our best to stay positive.

Xxx

We're already on the back foot having to go through IVF anyway, we go through so much. But there will be good times too! I promise. There is an excellent book called "It Starts With The Egg" which a lot of people have recommended. Do take it with a pinch of salt though - you don't have to follow it to the letter xx

Sorry to hear Grace. It happened to me twice unfortunately and they said it was an egg quality issue. I then pursued donor eggs abroad but ended up getting pregnant naturally. Good advice given by millbanks, i also was taking melatonin to add to the list but it has to he recommended by doctor. I wish you well.

Hi Grace, I’m sorry to read this and understand how you may be feeling- we have had total fertilisation failure on two occasions out of three cycles. Did you have ivf or icsi? The first time was put down to bad luck and the last time was down to my egg quality. X

in reply toRocco11

Hey! It was ICSI. Sorry to hear this happened to you twice as well :( how did your third cycle go? Xx

It was such a shock on the first cycle as we were advised 2-3% chance of failed fertilisation with icsi. I never expected to not reach egg transfer stage. Took a year off then We changed the medication second cycle - menopur to bemfola much more positive from 5 eggs to 11 collection and 2 fertilised ended up with one good grade to transfer which was unsuccessful. The last cycle we changed the protocol (should have stuck to what done in cycle 2) which was the worse cycle 4 eggs no fertilisation. Going again next month but repeating cycle two exactly and adding in tostran 3 weeks beforehand as some evidence it can help with response. I’ve also made other changes so hoping this time goes a lot better. X

Yes they said to us yesterday around 5% chance that none would fertalise so we just honestly didnt expect it.

I was on the a long protocol this time, so did buserelin injections and then 9 days of gonal F. I have a low AMH (average around 4.7, im 27 years old) so they seemed to think i had reacted well to the injections and i was happy with 7 eggs yesterday. My husbands sperm was also the best it had been yesterday out of all the samples / frozen sperm he has!

Xx

Oh lovely, this is so disappointing for you both. 7 eggs is a really good number, well done to your ovaries! If it helps at all, I was told to treat my first cycle as an investigation & if it worked it would be a bonus. They will know so much more now & will be able to tweak your next treatment protocol to hopefully get a better outcome. Do you know if they did IVF or ICSI? what supplements did the clinic recommend? It might be worth taking to a fertility nutritionist once you know more. Remember it only takes one egg & sperm! Big hugs Xx

Thank you 💖 i was happy with 7! But I think thats how were trying to look at it now. Its just hard as we never expected this bit to be the problem!

It was ICSI! and we actually didnt get reccomended any supplements/ i honestly didnt think to ask. But we will the next time around and will do/ take anything and everything to help!

Im just wondering how long we will have to wait until we can start again. Xx

Oh that’s good they did ICSI. It’s strange they didn’t suggest any supplements. I guess you must be on a conception multivitamin or folic acid if not get yourself some. I took the pregnacare ones & my husband took Wellman fertility. I order through Amazon where you can set up a subscription & every month they send out a box so I know I’ll never run out. I also took a daily vitamin D spray & some other supplements like coenzyme Q10. Might be worth starting some of these now. Some clinics like you to have a month or two before starting again others are happy to go straight into the next round. Make sure to keep trying naturally too.... you never know! Fingers crossed for you Xx

in reply tojengi

Yes we both had the wellwomen/ man and i have been taking folic acid and multivitim. I have ordered everything that has been reccomended on here now so i can start taking them asap!

Thank you for your lovely message xxx

As other ladies have said the first cycle tends to be a starting point from which tweaks will be made / lessons learnt. As you was on the long protocol they may want to switch you to short protocol, switch some medication around. It’s finding the best protocol which will work best for you. You will get answers next week and a plan of action for your second cycle. Also There’s a lot of good advice on your post in respect of vitamins etc if you are not already doing so. Usually need to take for around 3 months before your next cycle for added benefit.Keep us updated with how your appointment goes, in the meantime take care of yourself, if you want to talk/any questions your more than welcome to message me x

I’m so sorry to hear this, that must be very hard. I have read the thread & see so many supportive & positive stories but I just thought I’d mention (as you said you’re not on supplements), I work with a nutritionist who specialises in women’s hormones & fertility, she’s called ‘Rosie life nutrition’ find her on social media- we do everything via zoom. It doesn’t come cheap (her fees then allll the supplements on top) but I have noticed a difference in my cycle since working with her, I’m sure you can do lots to improve your egg/sperm. Good luck xxx
