Which vaccine to choose prior startin... - Fertility Network UK
Which vaccine to choose prior starting ivf?
You are correct, Pfizer or Moderna (both have same basic structure). However, you might run into issues with being able to “choose”, unless you are under 40 years old. I went to get mine from a vaccine centre that I informally knew to do other than Astra, and got a moderna vaccine that way. Once you are pregnant they automatically direct you to other than Astra (but not unfortunately beforehand).
Hi babycometrue. Most women about to start treatent are having similar thoughts, so I hope all goes well with whichever you do decide on. Diane
Hi, I asked my GP and told them I'd prefer the Pfizer, and they told me which sites nearby were doing Pfizer vaccines on certain dates, so I booked one of those
Just to offer a different perspectives! I was called for my first vaccine back in February due to underlying health conditions. I had just had a negative pregnancy test after a failed transfer so knew I wasn't pregnant. The centre I went to was only doing Astrazeneca jabs and they weren't offering people any choice and were still advising against COVID jabs for pregnant women. However I was really pleased to see I was getting the Astrazeneca as this is based on the same technology as the flu vaccine which is routinely given to pregnant women and not new technology which had not been yet so I felt more comfortable having this jab than I would have with the others. I was offered the second jab a couple of days before egg collection on my 3rd IVF cycle and discussed this with my consultant who recommended I have it. I would not have been comfortable having the jab when pregnant so if I hadn't been offered my second jab then, I wouldn't have had a second jab if I had got pregnant from my third cycle. Either way, I would have had whichever jab had been offered to me back in February as I knew I wasn't pregnant and wanted to be protected.
mRNA-based vaccines (Pfizer/Moderna) are suggested in pregnancy only because they were routinely administered to pregnant women in the US since the start of the vaccination campaign, so proved to be safe on a large dataset.
No vaccine will affect your "reproductive organs", it is not the way they work!
I would go with the one they give you, as my IVF clinics, GP and private gynaecologist and haematologist suggested me to do (and as I did!)
Honestly, much better any vaccination now than the stress of deciding later on!
I got Pfizer
