Hydroxychloroquine Tablets prior to IVF

Hello all! Is anyone here on hcq tablets(malaria tablets) prior to their IVF cycle? Did it work for you? Also, any side effects whilst on the course? I seem to have some sort of insomnia and last night, I felt awfully fatigued and could hardly get anything done.

Hi, I've been on them since July and been absolutely fine, no side effects at all. I do know some malaria treatments can have this effect though-- I took malaria tablets when I went to Africa, I had no side effects but people on the same drugs had fatigue, weird dreams, all sorts of side effects. Everyone reacts differently. Could be the hcq, time will tell.

Thank you! That's comforting to know. It's the fatigue that got me the most. I made up for the lack of sleep but it didn't make a difference. For years I've hardly had caffeinated drinks and didn't want to start now.

I was just prescribed hcg today (elevated NK and cytokines - didn’t respond to Humira). If you don’t mind me asking, I noticed you got your BFP (massive congrats). Do you think the hcq helped? How long did you take it for before cycle?x

So I'm 100% sure the drugs I'm on worked to get me pregnant. When I got my positive I was on hcq and had had an intralipid a few weeks before (the humira was in my system too, since march time I think). When I got a tiny TINY faint line I got booked in for my second intralipid and started taking progesterone and steroids - predisolone- straightaway. First time ever to get a heartbeat and so far all going OK. So I would say its the combination of drugs but I'd also say it seems to be the intralipids that tipped it as both times I got pregnant naturally (August and September) I had intralipids in my system. I've been on Hydroxy since June / July just before my last ivf cycle (we didn't transfer any embryos) and the pregnancy in August was our first attempt naturally. Hope that's useful x

Thank you! That so encouraging to hear. I’ve been on intralipids, prednisolone, Clexane, Asprin, tacralimus with all my FET’s. Humira made the cytokines worse, so HCQ is literally my last hope.x

I found the hcq and intralipids allowed the embryo to implant, but the predisolone (and second does of intralipids) helped me keep it.

Fab - that’s what I’m hoping the hcq will do for me. I’ve just had implantation failure after implantation failure (despite having 2 doses of intralipids - one 10 days before and then again on day of transfer). I’ve double donor embryos, all 4’s and 5’s, a and b grades x
