Oestradiol too high for EC?

My oestradiol reached 22,000 on day 10 of stims. I’m coasting and have been off my FSH stims for 2 days. It’s fallen to 19,000 but still too high to consider triggering. Dr mentioned today that we might have to cancel if it doesn’t fall due to OHSS risk. Has anyone had any similar experiences? It’s my first round and I’m feeling pretty devastated that we might not reach egg collection. We have MFI.

Really hope it falls enough for you to go ahead with EC. 🤞 Mine was high but not too high to trigger just too high to transfer so we had to do a freeze all. I was told to only do half the trigger amount that was on my protocol though. Keeping fingers crossed for you. When was the first day they checked it as that is really quite high?

Thanks for replying and for sharing. I’ve had bloods on days 7, 9, 11, 12, 13. They dropped my menopur dose on day 10, and I’ve been coasting for two days now. I spoke to a doctor last night who said my initial dose (225) was moderate so they couldn’t have anticipated it going so high. But I feel a bit disappointed to potentially not get egg collection, particularly as I was feeling really unwell last week and struggled through. x

I felt really unwell and mine wasn't as high as yours so I can only imagine. I think they don't want to worry you but it'd be good to know some signs of it being high so you can flag it before it goes too far. Completely understandable that you're disappointed. I was distraught when I thought I wouldn't be able to go ahead with EC because of the side effects of the meds. Keeping my fingers crossed that it works out for you this time. When you're feeling better I would definitely be questioning how it managed to get so high before they dropped it. Take it easy and look after yourself. X

Thank you. It’s dropped which is good news. Doctor said I’ve just not responded in the normal way. But I think lesson is that I’ll ask for more bloods sooner rather than waiting till day 7. They’re going to consider a freeze all of there are a lot of eggs collected. Thanks for calming me down! x

I'm so glad it's dropped enough for you to go ahead. It's so difficult to know what is normal and what isn't in regards to side effects so you don't know when something isn't quite right. Good luck with your EC. Hopefully they'll get plenty of eggs with how high it went. Freeze all worked out well for us as excruciating as the extra waiting was. I hope it all works out for you. X

I'm in the middle of horrendous OHSS - and it's only mild apparently! If it's too high, as painful as it is it's better for you health wise. Though I do hope it drops for you. Can they not give you a non HCG trigger and freeze all? xx

Poor you. I felt dreadful a few days ago. Just got a call to say my level is now 13,000 so can go ahead with trigger and EC but doctor will consider freeze all if there’s signs of OHSS during the procedure and if they get a lot of eggs. Hope you feel better soon. xx

Glad things can go ahead! I sadly had bad news with no embryos developing normally. So OHSS sucks even more when it's all for nothing! Good luck with your EC! xx

Hi Llizzie, I had 19000 pmol/L oestradiol two days before egg collection in my first cycle. I still had stims on that day (a reduced dose though) and a trigger injection. EC went fine and I didn’t have OHSS though felt very bloated and uncomfortable before EC. I decided to opt in for a freeze all cycle back then.I’m on my second collection cycle now with the egg collection scheduled this Wednesday. Oestradiol reached 19000 pmol/L again based on today’s blood test results. This time the clinic have cancelled today’s stims, changed the trigger injection and asked me to come back for an additional blood test tomorrow morning. So looks like the EC is still going ahead given that they are still planning to administer the trigger injection in the evening.

Well we can be OHSS watch buddies! I’m off my stims for the third day, my estradiol has dropped to just below 13,000. Dr said they may decide to do freeze all if they get a lot of eggs or there are signs of fluid. I’m off to trigger in a few hours!

Hope you’re doing ok today? I made it to EC, 14 eggs. We’ll decide on fresh or frozen in the next few days but they’ll scan me before they decide xx

Hey Llizzie! Congratulations! 14 is a very good number! 😊 I had 8 eggs retrieved today and was recommended to go for a freeze all cycle. I’m more comfortable with FET anyway so it was ok with me. Fingers crossed we’ll get good embryos this cycle. All the very best to you! Let us know how it goes 😊
