I’m on my first longer protocol (2nd round ivf), started on day 21 this round whereas round 1 we started day 2.
I’m cycle day 28 and would normally have a v regular 26/27 day cycle- I know it’s not super late, but not had any spotting or symptoms at all to say my period is coming. Yesterday was my 2nd stims scan & the doctor asked about my period…they seemed slightly concerned that not even any spotting but no more.
If you’ve experienced this, was your ivf round cancelled? Or EC delayed?
We’ve got a 3rd stims scan on Friday to decide trigger date but I’m worried they might not let me go ahead with no AF. Appreciate any shared experience as always 💜

hey, I had long protocol for my second round too. I had prostap and the date I was expecting to come on my period I didn’t either and I ended up coming on a week later than usual. The clinic didn’t seem worried they just said i might have needed another prostap injection to put me on until I did and rearrange the EC. I ended up coming on my period before the time ran out for the prostap, but my EC was changed to later as once I did come on I then had to stims too. I then ended up having to do stims for an extra 4 days due to slow follicles but gor 15 eggs in the end. So try not to worry I’m sure they will have options xx
thank you so much! This is my first long protocol so I just didn’t twig this was a possibility…15 eggs is fantastic! We are trying longer protocol to up my number & especially qlty (we had 10 on short protocol with 8 mature, and only 3 fertilised) so I guess my fear is doing much longer on stims and it not delivering any results. Your sharing puts my mind at rest a lot, thank you 💜 x
That’s the same reason they put me in long too as my first round only got 6 eggs and 1 blast so they wanted to try long protocol which was 15 eggs and 3 blasts. So much better but was hoping for more but I can’t complain as it was much better quality ones too, my blast from the first round was not a great one and some fragmentation. But second round was 3 top quality blasts and 2 of them hatching so definitely worth the longer process.
I did long protocol, my period was late and then I had a cyst which we had to wait for it to go away. So they just pushed back the start date for stims, in the end I was about 7-10 days behind where I’d been originally scheduled.
That’s the benefit of long protocol - they have much more control over it all so if there’s delays you can just push back the start date whereas on short protocol if there’s any probs you miss the whole cycle.
I tried long protocol to get more eggs, but actually ended up with less! 3 with short and just 1 with long
thank you for sharing and I am sorry it didn't work for you, that's frustrating. My partner is getting worried as we have Glastonbury end June haha - I am getting worried about failing and he is thinking of fields
In the short round we had 10 eggs > 8 mature and then 2 didn't fertilise, 3 did but abnormally and 3 did fertilise normally. We are doing PGTA testing as we are 42 and 51 and had 2 chemicals only so far.
2 made it day 5 then degenerated and 1 got to day 7 but it wasn't strong enough to be tested so they had to let it go...which haunts me a bit with the thought but I also know it may not have implanted or been successful down the line.
BB55, ALL the best for today and I hope that is one sticky, epic quality little blastocyst <3
I’m sorry to hear that none made it to transfer. But great you’re getting 10 eggs, I’m a couple years younger than you and have got nowhere near that number!
