Fresh IVF and Ectopic Pregnancy....do i have any chance of success with next FET?

So im currently going through a bit of a rollercoaster of emotions at the moment. Got my first BFP after years of trying to concieve naturally and after my first round of fresh transfer IVF. I had a day three transfer of two embryos and was really worried about whether either of them would make it. Turns out one did but unfortunately it implanted in my right fallopian tube. One day after my official test day I started bleeding and had painful cramps for five days. I told my clinic and they took my bloods. My hcg was low but it was doubling shich sort of got my hopes up again. Went back in yesterday for an early scan and was given thr news that it was an ectopic pregnancy. Literally heartbroken.

At the moment I'm just being monitored on the "watch and wait" protocol as the pregnancy sac is very small at 3.3mm, beta hcg is 549 (which has increased since last week). Im just struggling to decide as to what i should do next. Has anyone got any advice or experience as to how to best improve my chances for either my final found of FET or even natural conception. I know I have an increased chance of another ectopic and dont know whether the watch and wait, medical management with methatrexate or surgery would be best to improve my chances of becoming pregnant in thr future. I'm so scared and worried at the moment...almost not even giving myself time to soak in the current information as im worried its all over for any future attempts too.

I’m sorry you’ve had such bad news

I’ve had 2 ectopics and ultimately lost both tubes.

Just to warn you if you have methotrexate then the advice is not to get pregnant for 3 months if you have one dose or 6 months if you have 2 doses as it can cause miscarriage/birth defects

If you decide just to wait and see if your body can resolve the ectopic itself it’s still best to wait 3 months so the tube has time to heal itself

Unfortunately you will be at risk of another ectopic and there is no known test to check if your tubes work or anyway to repair them if they don’t work. You should also know that IVF actually increases the chance of an ectopic happening rather than reducing it so I wouldn’t do another double transfer

Sorry if that sounds all doom and gloom. I know lots of people who have had a successful pregnancy after an ectopic though so don’t lose hope x

Thank you so much for your reply. I know ivf increases your chances of having an ectopic as does having a previous one which is why I'm so scared about what happens next. I read the same about the methatrexate ... and to be honest want to avoid it if possible. Im hoping it resolves itself as its quite small but its all up in the air atm. I think the minimum time I would give myself regardless of what treatment I had would be three months anyways...hopefully it will give me a chance to get myself back to a reasonable place emotionally and physically.

What was your outcome...did you try again after you had both tubes removed?

When I had my second ectopic (following a double IVF transfer) the doctor did offer to try and save my tube but I declined and I also asked him to go back in to my first ectopic side and remove the stump left behind to make doubly sure I couldn’t have another ectopic. To be honest I was relieved - both mine ruptured and were life threatening and I didn’t want to go through it again

I did have a happy ending in that a year later I did another double transfer and had twins x

Aww thank you so much for your message. Definately in a better place now and just giving my body the time it needs to recover and heal. Adenomyosis is such a tricky condition to deal with as there's not much that can be done although lots of women have concieved with it so my hope is not over yet.
