Hope with DNA Comet test result

I just wanted to share some postives news to give those with MF sperm factor some hope... My partner has just had the result of his second DNA comet test and his sperm has gone from significant damage (Sept 2020) to much improved quality (March 2021), our consultant said that he now has better quality then some at the clinic . He has been taken Impryl for a year and cod liver oil. While he has reduced his alcohol intake, he still drinks around 15-20 units a week. If someone had said the quality would improve 6 months on...I would have doubted it.

We do still remain in the unexplained category.... our consultant has said there is no reason why we can't conceive naturally...not sure if I feel better or worst with that news but we are heading to our final 3rd round over the next couple of months and will try to relax and keep trying naturally 8n the meantime .

This journey is definitely teaching us not to give up hope 🙏

Wishing all you sassy warriors hope and light at the end of the tunnel ❤X

Hi Jaten, that’s brilliant news! Well done both of you! If you don’t mind me asking, what were his average Comet numbers before and after? xx

in reply tosoccerkt6

I am not sure on the numbers to be honest as I don't think.we got those from.out clinic but it was pretty bad last year. That was enough to push my partner over the edge, and then to get good news recently he so much more confident now. Its horrible how these results can really impact your life.

That’s good news!! Unfortunately the vast majority of people are told they have unexplained fertility!

I said to our consultant - I don’t believe anything is unexplained, you just haven’t found it!! And she actually agreed

Since starting our journey it seems everyone just gets the basic checks, told their unexplained and away you go with treatment! Unless you have a condition that’s glaringly obvious that they need to check out that’s it - you get no more investigations, unless you’ve done several rounds at thousands of pounds

Couldn't conceive for years. Done IVF/icsi transferred top quality embryo and it failed. I miscarried.. then conceived naturally

That's lovely news, we given it one more shot ivf next month but hope that we could convince naturally. We did think we'd take our foot off the pedal and try!

Tip if you have a failed IVF transfer hope u don't obviously... but if you do then straight away first period try naturally twice a day every day.. that is what I did and got pregnant it's because your body is in kick start mode.

I had unexplained for years... told its age! Anyway i have now been diagnosed with deep endometriosis, adenomyosis and some adhesions! Nothing is unexplained... it just helps the ivf docs push u to a cycle. I think best place to go for investigations is actually a good gynae doc

I had an internal scan checked everything was all OK, Did you have other sorts of scans to further investigate?

Yes i had an a mri scan which can tell you for certain what issues you may be having. I was told i dont have endo by a consultant who said she was very experienced etc. Anyway now i know i have deep endo. Mri is the only main way to know.

in reply tojoey81

Is an mri different from an internal scan sorry for all the questions
