Hope you’re all having a nice day. My acupuncturist suggested looking into Chinese herbal medicine to help with fertility but I’m not sure about herbs. I have had ovarian cysts and they may have returned I’m waiting for scan. 2 failed ivf treatments one short protocol and one long protocol.
I’m feeling under pressure due to my age 38 to go and find a new clinic and try again but I’ve seen some stories online where people have conceived naturally with aid of herbs. I’m feeling really sceptical about trying anything new.. I think I’ve lost confidence in everything due to the failures.
Has anyone found this helpful for their fertility journey? If so I would be really grateful for any advice pls.
Thank you 😊
Xx

I was on Chinese herbs for 5 months and with regular accupuncture(was also taking CQ10, Magnesium, B Complex for the last 2 months), I had fallen pregnant naturally but unfortunately that pregnancy didn’t go well. My acupuncturist had said that the herbs help in hormone balance. I just trusted the acupuncturist and decided to take it.
Thanks hun.. yes that’s helpful I’m taking the CQ10 also so hopefully something is helping.. sorry to hear about your pregnancy.. hope everything works out for you xx
I took Chinese herbs for 3 months last year. I later found out we can't convince naturally anyway so it was a waste of time (and money) 🙄 but I had my amh checked in that time and it was 52, which seems really high - I don't have pcos, so I wonder if it was something to do with the herbs. I also had bleeding between periods which I've never had before or since. I would be cautious!
I’ve got a low AMH and my acupuncturist recommended Chinese herbal tea so I’m currently drinking two cups a day. Also on CoQ-10, magnesium etc. Our next round is in July so will get the AMH tested June and hoping it will be higher. Interestingly my hairdresser commented my hair has gotten thicker since she saw me last in December so hopefully that’s a sign the supplements are doing something!
Thank you for sharing.. that’s interesting as recently my hairs falling out a bit more but I’ve been under a lot of stress too.. house renovation and family member (OH side) announced her pregnancy face to face which just threw me emotionally. I’m taking the CQ10 too. Do they ask your AMH before suggesting which Chinese tea to take? My AMH a year ago was 37 (no pcos) I’m going to have it checked again.
My acupuncturist asked for both my FSH and AMH level which he passed onto his supplier who made a tea to suit those readings. It was about £25 for 2 months supply so not too expensive. Doesn’t taste great but I’m willing to try anything!
I definitely think it helps balancing your hormones and just energy in general. My first round was cancelled due to major variances in the size of the follicles.
I did weekly acupuncture for the next cycle. No herbs though. I got a higher number of follicles and very consistent sizes after doing the acupuncture. Unfortunately I ovulated before EPU so we had to do a 3 rd cycle which yielded 2 fair grade blasts. Both of which were BFN.
It could be coincidence but I do feel acupuncture helps 🙂
Thank you for sharing.. that’s really helpful.. I did my last round in Jan and unfortunately my acupuncturist closed due to covid so I couldn’t have the regular sessions but she’s back open now so maybe on my next round I’ll try weekly.
Aww I’m sorry to hear that. I hope everything works out for you hun. xx
Yes I got pregnant after 2 months of taking chinese herbs and acupunture. It balanced my hormones and helped me ovulate. Unfortunately I had a miscarriage but I still take them because they also help with digestion and other issues.
I feel pregnant twice on chiense medicine. Unfortunately one I got too 10 weeks. The other was 5 weeks. But I think down to quality of my eggs. So it's definitely worth a try. Especially I was 39 & 40 at the time xxx
Aw thank you for sharing. On my last ivf round they only got 2 eggs from 6 follicles which didn’t fertilise and told my I had poor eggs. This was a long protocol with strong dose of menopur 350-450iu. But the first round I had a top quality embryo with a short
Protocol and lower dose drugs but I had 3 follicles. So I’m not sure what’s going on. But will try again with my own eggs. I’m 38.
I have twins now. But I had to go do down the d.e route. I also did ivf. On high dose.of medication. that didn't work. Then I tried modified ivf. Which is more natural due to my low reserve. That didn't work either. So we ended up going abroad doing d.e. worked 1st time. But what I learnt from my journey. Every single women is different could work for you. I just new deep down I throwing money away..this would only be the way I can me a mum. I don't regret it in the slightest.they are my absolute everything. Xxxxxx
Aw I’m so happy for you! I’m thinking to try the modified natural ivf as I managed to get a good embryo on the short lower dose protocol so maybe a tweak somewhere might do the trick! I was told also to look at d.e so I’m keeping an open mind about that too.. so glad to hear about your journey. Xxx
Only speaking from experience and not to prejudice yours or anyone’s decision. I tried herbs for about 3 months and was being (what I felt was pressured) into starting mushrooms for myself and partner. The clinician knew nothing about my history or results so looking back what was she basing her prescription on? At the time covid had halted all out our treatments so I was desperate and I must say vulnerable. Just as I was about to start the mushrooms (which I may add I had paid for) I had my appointment for IVF where my consultant guided me firmly away from alternative.
Looking back I was very naive and vulnerable and would of tried everything and I feel I was taken advantage of. If these options were really worthwhile why isn’t research/clinics/HFEA backing it. Incidentally the herbs didn’t do anything for me!
Thank you for sharing.. yes I know that desperation feeling. I’m 38 and a family member has just announced they’re having a baby so I am the only one left and feel under more pressure. I’m nervous to try new things. My ovulation is normal and I think my hormones are ok. I had 2 ovarian cysts removed last year (endometriomas) and I think that’s affected my ovarian response as my Amh is quite high at 37 (no PcOS) but I don’t respond to treatment that well.
Hi! I am lucky to have two boys naturally but I’m struggling with conceiving a third. I turned to acupuncture and herbs last November but I had to stop due to covid and the clinic closing from December until February. But I’ve been doing weekly sessions for the last month as well as daily herbs and I’ve noticed a big difference in my pmt symptoms and digestion! No cramps either. I was actually surprised when my period came this month as I usually know when it’s coming due to my mood. It’s been pretty great that way. I’m not pregnant yet but I started to do CHM due to the success of a dear friend-she did two failed ivf rounds but fell pregnant naturally after CHM. It definitely seems to balance hormones which is a big piece of the puzzle albeit not the whole picture. Go for it if you think you want to try it!
I wasn’t asked for any hormone profile. I’m not at the stage of wanting to know what my AMH is to be honest but my friend had low AMH at the time and she only has one ovary. The clinic didn’t ask me for hormone detail. I just told the lady that I want to get pregnant so she focuses the needles in the relevant areas and gives me 3x sachets of ground up herbs to have every evening. Yes the cramps thing has been great. I was getting bad pmt bloat too and that’s gone.
I have taken Chinese medicine that my Acupuncturist advised, but I only took two short courses. I then had an ivf round and noticed at the bottom of the info, advising against using Chinese medicine as they had noticed poor results from women taking these. I haven’t taken them since. Plus I’m not keen on not knowing what exactly it is i’m taking, what if animal cruelty is involved. Although I will continue with the acupuncture. X
I went through a period of taking Chinese herbs with acupuncture for infertility. One of them made me so sick it was horrible. It’s difficult as there often isn’t much info about them. I just blindly took what I was told as I was desperate! My advice would be if you decide to take Chinese herbs then don’t mix them with IVF. You don’t need anything upsetting your cycle/ hormones etc in an already stressful situation. If you give them a go then perhaps do them at a different time. Good luck xx
I didn’t find herbs so helpful but that may have been because of my age (I was 40/41 at the time so my egg quality may already have been v poor). I was diagnosed with extremely high NK cells (from endometrial biopsy) and my TCM practitioner prescribed mesima mushrooms (x 6 capsules daily) based on this. When I had the biopsy repeated 18 months later my scores were within normal limits! It could only have been due to the mushrooms and/or adopting mostly a dairy and gluten free diet to reduce inflammation.
Hi HarryI was sailing in exact same boat till last year wen my 4th IVF succeeded. Same cyst history. But this time I was asked to do blood tests like Pŕotein S and a few more. Turned out my Protien S was extremely low...so was given enaxparin 40 with which I conceived after 9 years!
