My nurse said to fast from midnight. Does that include fluids/water as well?
That would be 8 hours ahead of retrieval, did anyone fast for longer? I read 8-12 hours before.
It's my first time having any type of procedure/surgery and I'm worrying. I just want to do what's best to keep me safe.
Thanks x

Can you phone your clinic? Have they not given you any written instructions?
At my clinic its normally fast from midnight and to drink at least 300mls of water just before 6am but nothing after 6am.. however it depends on different anaesthetics etc.
I think you should check specifically with your clinic rather than ask on here as everyone will be different and it may just end up confusing you even more
I’m an anaesthetist. Usually the rules say midnight. But strictly it’s no food (including milk and chewing gum) for 6 hrs before a procedure and no clear fluids for 2 hrs before. So as long as you eat nothing after your dinner the night before and then have a glass of water when you wake up but nothing afterwards then you’ll be fine.
Thank you so so much! This is really helpful ❤️ yes I’ve just finished having dinner so now I won’t eat anything until after my egg collection tomorrow But it’s good to know that I can have some water before bed tonight if I need.
