Hi everybody. Feeling super deflated at the moment. I just went for another afc scan and the nurse confirmed that my right ovary is definitely stuck behind my uterus which means it probably won't be accessible during ivf. She also could only see 2 follicles one on each ovary. I had this scan done at another clinic on day 2 of my cycle 2 months ago and she could see 9 antral follicle 5 on the right and 4 on the left. The scan today was on day 11 and only 2 follies could be seen. Is it possible that my reserve is diminishing rapidly? What does this mean for my fertility? Can it change that much from cycle to cycle? I'm debating whether ivf is even the right step for us now 😔😔😔 sorry for all the questions i have to wait 2 weeks before I can speak to my consultant and I think ill go mad before then.

Lower AFC than 2 months ago!!! Where do I go from here?
Hi Babybana. Oh dear, but it does happen. Hopefully you will be OK for another try, but see whether you can have a dummy run prior to any egg collection etc., so that they know how to get to the ovary that's hiding. Thinking of you. Diane
AFC needs to be done on day 2-3.
Ovarian reserve usually don’t decline that fast. But the exam is not that reliable so don’t put too much thought on it.
Yes thats what I said to the nurse but she said it doesn't matter about the day the antral follicles should still be there 😒😒
11 days may even have ovulated already. I would discount that.
Also it can vary month to month and different observers will give you different results. Also needs to take into account your day 2-3 FSH and AMH.
But ovarian reserve decreases slowly over time, very very very rare to decrease abruptly. I don’t think that changes your situation at all.
The follicles that can be seen can vary month to month. Hopefully your consultant will advise you of this when they see you.
Like you I have a very shy ovary which hides behind my uterus. Mine is on the left. My scans always take longer with them always trying to find the left one.
It is worth telling you that some clinics are skilled at getting to the eggs from ovaries that are not easy to get to.
Before I chose my current clinic, I talked to 3 different clinics, 2 offered me solutions an how to get to the follicles during egg collection. 1 clinic told me they could not get to it so I obviously did not go with that one!
My current clinic has been able to get to my eggs during egg collection- twice. They just apply some pressure on my abdomen which brings the follicles into view. It can take a while though.
All the best with your journey 🙏🏾
Thank you for the reply. Whereabouts are you and what clinic did you go with in the end? It didn't occur to me that some clinics might be able to access it better than others. How do you even begin to find out? Is it just a matter of booking a few consultations? It costs over £300 per scan and consultation which really limits the "shopping around" options
I am in London. Happy to share details of my clinic privately.
I know what you mean about the costs. My husband and I chose to do that because we wanted to be sure of treatment options- it was a one-off so we thought it was worth it.
I agree spending money to find a good clinic that will get you better results will actually save you money in the long run. Not to mention the most important that is increasing your chances!
Hi,I'm so sorry that must have been a shock after your previous AFC count.
My experience was that I had 4+2 on my first scan then 6 months later only 2+1 and was devastated it would change so much. I've learnt though the 2 nurses who scan at my clinic report what they see on the scans very differently. Plus different days of the cycle will definitely explain some variation.
Also 2 IVF rounds I had 3 good size follicles and some smaller ones matching the AFC scan. But one round I had 9 good size follicles so my experience is that AFC is a rough indicator but not everything. Hope that helps to hear someone else's experience and reassure you before your appointment. Good luck and in choosing the clinic go with your gut and which consultant you trust and listens to you. Plus try to phone the nurses as you'll BSE dealing with the most and the biggest issue is getting hold of them when you need. Mine never answer when ring but always call you back within a couple of hours max which does really help xx
Thank you so much for your reply. I feel a bit better after spending most of the day on Instagram and on forums researching peoples success stories with low amh. My issue isn't even the low amh to be honest I believe I can do a lot to boost the quality of the eggs I have its the fact that my chances are halved even further if the consultants write off my right ovary because its inaccessible. I think I will have to bite the bullet though and just keep trying clinics until I find one who will say "it might be difficult but not impossible to retrieve eggs from the right ovary"
