Fear of the call

I had my second egg collection today. They predicted around 30 but got 16! Happy with that as I guess I’m less likely to be ill. They said I still have to freeze all just in case. That’s annoying but whatever, I can deal with it. What I can’t deal with is this impending embryologist phone call in the morning to tell me how many have fertilised. I’m literally terrified. I’m so used to getting bad news I can’t even imagine this is going to be right. I can’t even be happy for my 16 eggs just expecting doom

Hello there, yes I can somewhat relate to what you are saying. Apart from the fear of a BFN, the calls about embryo progress is a stage that I am not so keen on.

I can assure you that it gets better with time and it usually ends up working out fine. Absolute disasters are rare. Chances are you will end up with a good number of embryos and if you are having a fresh transfer, the team will assess whether you should go in on day 3 for a transfer. This is unless your clinic only transfers day 5 embryos.

Just remember that 16 is a good number to start with! The numbers may dwindle but that is standard in IVF. People with a lot less go on to have babies.

Also I read somewhere that 15/16 eggs is the optimum number of eggs to collect in IVF. All the best! 🙏🏾

Hello Maryc32! Same here. I had my egg collection yesterday, got 11 eggs, but they said I am at risk of OHSS so they will freeze them all. Waiting for my call, I am terrified as well. Sending hugs🤞🤞🤞🍀🍀🍀

Thank you!! Best of luck to you too. I think they are being mega cautious because of Covid. My doctor said if too many patients get admitted to hospital for OHSS then there might be calls for clinics to shut again. So it’s for the greater good xx
