IVF with Donor Eggs Abroad

Hi all. me and my husband are looking to go to India for IVF using donor eggs. Been advised I need to be out there for about 2 months, to account for quarantine time, tests, finding donor and then the process. Do we need specific travel insurance to cover this or can we get the normal. If normal do we need to disclose this purpose. Also, trying to find multi trip incase we need to make further trip in the year but the max no of days per trip is saying around 31 days. Is there any particular insurance (reasonable) that anyone has used and knows covers this purpose and longer duration stays?.

Hi bkr13 - we went to Greece last year for treatment but didn’t take out specialised travel insurance (just standard travel insurance). Luckily, we were okay and didn’t require to use it. But going so far to India, I can understand why you’d want to.

Sorry I can’t be of help but just wanted to wish you the best of luck :) x

Hi We went to Czech for donor eggs treatment but we're only there for a week and we were still part of the EU.

I think you're doing the right thing getting specialist insurance since you're going to be away so long and for such a long time.

I can't remember the name of the company but I used a specialist insurance company for my mum's travel insurance just after she had gone through cancer treatment. It might be worth contacting a company like that to see if they can help.

Good luck!

many that I tried calling all said we dont cover. I was referred to check with British Insurance Brokers Association but they couldnt help either.

I used medical travel shield for Athens twice last year, reasonably priced you can do it all on line. Ivf is classed as medical treatment so any normal travel insurance policy wouldn't cover it as you arent travelling for tourism purposes. Best of luck.

Unless I was having invasive procedures I wouldnt bother getting specialist insurance. We had treatment with DE in Athens and the only time I took specialist insurance was when I had a hysteroscopy under general anaesthetic.xx

Can’t you choose the donor prior to going? That’s what I did. Also, you can then have “out of town” monitoring to do everything locally and only fly there for a short time. Is that not an option for you?

We are ok to go for the duration as we have family home there. accounting for isolation time, and tests, and pre medication, and some contingency its about that length.

Hi, firstly I want to wish you all the best !!

Secondly, not sure if you are an Indian citizen or a “OCI” holder but the last I know, India has closed its borders except to its citizens and those with an “OCI”.

Just wanted to let you know :) you may already know!

Fingers crossed and wishing you all the best !!!
